Save the Velodrome: Bring your kids to the track for Newsround filming on Friday

Recommended Posts

We have BBC?s Newsround coming to the Velodrome to do a piece on the campaign this Friday, 1st October (think John Craven). In case you didn?t know, every Friday is Kids Club. Children can bring their own bikes, trikes or scooters to whizz round the track for an hour and it?s FREE!

It would be great to show as many children as possible enjoying the facilities (come rain or shine). Please join us from 4pm at the track and have some fun. Note the start time is normally 4-30pm.

The Velodrome entrance is on Burbage Road, SE24 9HE. There is free parking for all. Click here for the map.

Save the Velodrome is a campaign to stop the oldest cycling track in England from being closed. To find out more, visit: www.savethevelodrome.com or www.facebook.com/savethevelodrome. There is a public meeting on 6th October - everyone welcome - details on the site above.

Many thanks

The Save the Velodrome Campaign committee

A BIG THANK YOU: Dear Supports, Thank you to everyone who made it down yesterday to show BBC London how much we all appreciate the track. There were over 100 kids and parents today, and while it was a wet, it was worth it. We can't thank you all enough for heading down. Watch out for yourselves on the box - it will be aired this Monday 4th October at 6.30pm.
Steve - we already have track stars in abundance - track cycling was our most succcessful event at the Beijing Olympics - what we have to worry about is the next cohort - there are indeed lots of cyclists around but many of them are MIMIL's (Middle-aged men in Lycra) so we need to ensure a means of encouraging as many kids as possible to get into competitive cycling - that way the natural talent will be identified and developed from an early age.

    • Hello,  I am offering to house sit between 12-30th May I have house sit before for friends and family and have become free to house sit this month. I’d prefer longer house sitting stints but if you have a couple nights let me know and we could see if that works.  please message me if you’re interested   very best,
    • I’m sorry malumbu but I won’t be answering your question on climate change etc! I would love to answer it but there are certain people on this forum and who have gone before you that love to shut people down on their views and turn the conversation around.  I’m in the process of finding out who is the current Reform Party candidate in my area (Dulwich Village Ward)  and will be giving them my support asap!
    • Yes, it’s absolute drivel ! 😀
