A lady has just had her handbag stolen from her car right outside the church on the corner of waghorn street, (within the last half hour). She was putting her 3 small children in the car and a young black male walking past spotted her bag and grabbed it and ran. He ran off down Anstey rd towards the top of Rye Lane. One of her children was very shocked and crying, she said it contained all her keys, credit cards, purse etc. One lady walking past found the ladies car key discarded on the pavement.
Never ever have keys and credit cards in a bag. Use a pocket with a zip. Obviously I am sorry the woman has been robbed and would be the first to berate the scumbag that took it but we don't live in a nice world. Common sense goes a long way to stopping thieves taking these things and it amazes me that many woman still use a handbag to carry valuables.

What, "young black male"? Yes, must be the same person then, there's not many of them around :-S

yes I think I saw a young black guy in streatham once. But seriously this description could be me. Ok, apart from the young bit.

Good job the description wasn't an ageing white woman, I'd be arrested by now probably :))

I was at the cashpoint (not Barclays the other one) on Lordship Lane last Monday around 11am with my toddler in buggy and 6yr old off school with minor complaint and became aware of a white guy lurking around the corner but kept popping around to see how I was progressing with my withdrawal. I use a small bag across my body (over head and one shoulder) for my purse and keep my keys in a separate pocket. He massively gave himself away as up to no good, too much lurking and staring and I stopped and stared right back at him and he backed off. I have always been aware that busy, distracted mums are easy prey and try to be as vigilant as I can but unfortunately these things do happen as there is scum out there.

A nasty thing someone once warned me about is that the worst robbers will actually tip your pram up so you dive to say your wee one whilst they leg off with your belongings.

We just need to be as aware as we can.
