New Kent Road was closed in one direction only (from Elephant) and I heard a couple of people say there had been an accident there, but there is definitely something else going on as well. No busses going into town. Most busses terminating at Camberwell Green, or else changing destination (shortening their journey). I haven't heard or seen a plane in the sky for hours. All that congestion in town and not a single helicopter checking it out... I left work in Gray's Inn Road at 5.15 and got home shortly after 8.

Who keeps saying that? Not saying you're wrong, I have been thinking the same thing for some time, but I don't recall actually having seen or heard anything to that efect.

Just seem to be more police about than usual at stations etc..

Doesn't it depend on the way the wind is blowing, or something, or have I got that wrong?

I thought the flight paths varied.

Certainly on some mornings there isn't any air traffic.

Well obviously there's always a risk, I just wonder whether there's actually a greater risk than usual at the moment or whether something is expected just because it's been a long time since the last one?

I was living in London during the time of the IRA bombs, and it seemed you couldn't go out at all without some scare somewhere - stations seemed to be evacuated on a regular basis, and you were constantly coming across cordoned off areas. I got used to scarpering pretty sharpish.

Sorry, off topic.

Eh?

I meant, my understanding was that when the wind was in a certain direction, planes approached the airports from a different direction, and hence didn't come over East Dulwich :)) There are forum threads about it :))

And Saila never mentioned IRA bombings? Oh, maybe it's just past my bedtime, think I'll go and chop up some flyers ....

Sorry Sue, no she didn't, it was you but you had quoted her post so I got my wires crossed. Also about the flight paths, I wasn't talking about the ones directly over East Dulwich, but in the sky over London generally - I was talking about my journey this eveing from WC1 back to SE22, between 5.15 and 8.00 this evening when I finally got home, and it just struck me as odd not to have seen or heard anything overhead. It really was a strange journey, with massive delays and of course no information about anything, and everyone wondering what was going on. Very unsettling!
Camberwell New Road was cordoned off from Brixton Road to Vassell Road including John Ruskin Street, with police shooing everyone away. Saw an ambulance park up at the junction of John Ruskin Street, but didn't see any smashed cars. Seemed a bit over the top to shut the entire road down, unless it was someone running around with a gun or a knife.

Two seperate accidents one in Camberwell New Road the other at Elephant & Castle both fatalities would not call that " bit over the top".

    • You don't need a gym to lose 10kg. Get a set of dumbbells and maybe a resistance band, find a HIIT channel you like on youtube and workout in your room, eat clean and go out every day. £115/mo is ridiculous. I thought they were supposed to be about £20 to £30 and most people give up come February anyway.
    • Point taken..I go 3-4 times a week and have done every week for several years however £115 a month is still a lot of money for many people (myself included) for a 'non essential' One can if one wishes excersise by running or Cycling, swimming once in a while. Gym membership IS a luxury...
    • Tawny owls are hooting in Dawsons Heights very near me. But very elusive birds. Sadly now on the amber list.  I have heard the owls every night for the past couple of weeks  It is good to know they are here. They are quite loud so I think they are very near. I have never seen an owl in the wild before and wish I  could  see them.
    • Hi, looking for a 3-4yrs ski jacket if anyone has one they no longer need or would lend if they want it back for younger siblings in future years! Many thanks
