So help me Jesus.

An Italian? Really? I've said this before, but I'll keep saying it till I'm blue in the face. We HAVE Italians. Lots.

Il Mirto - Melbourne Grove

Si Magia - Forest Hill Road

Case Smerelda - towards Nunhead

Il Giardino - opposite Peckham Rye station

Locale - East Dulwich Road

The Gowlett and the Actress do pizzas

There is another new Italian opening on Bellenden Road.

AND, to top it off, the two things you've suggested....Bella Pasta and Zizzis....are NOT Italians. They serve some vague approximation of cod-Italian pre-cooked, packet sauce slop. The have about as much relation to Italian food as a horse and cart to a Ferrari. Please, stop it now before I explode in a mess of puttanesca sauce!

I went out with a bella pasta waitress for a wee while.

Her tales could turn you grey haired over night.

The food was so bad she wouldn't even spit on it leave alone eat it, which is something of a coincidence because potentially libellous anecdotes and the vicar said 'Not on your nelly' aha, ha ha... uhhhh hhhhuuuurrrhhhhhhh.

It's not anal. It's pointing out that asking for another Italian when we already are inundated with them is nonsensical. It would be like asking for another curry house. We have loads. Say you don't like the ones we have and discuss what a new one might bring and I might have some sympathy.

Pointing out their addresses saves the OP asking "where's that then?"

And pointing out that neither Bella Pasta nor Zizzis bears any resemblance to actual Italian food is just good eating (as Piers points out). I mean, it's actually depressing. An it doesn't even have the excuse of being cheap.

You've obviously not been in the village for a while Sean. Bella Pasta closed down about three years ago and was replaced by Cafe Rouge.

    • A couple of updates to this terrible event:   1) In 2021, two cousins (one from Penge and one from Streatham) were convicted of murder and sentenced to a minimum of 23 years in prison. The Southwark News has a summary of the awful day. https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/dulwich/donnell-rhule-dulwich-knife-murderer-cousins-sentenced-to-life-for-killing-18-year-old/    2) Last week, a female prison officer from Forest Hill was sentenced to eight months in prison for pursuing a relationship with one of the two murderers while at HMP Brixton. https://metro.co.uk/2025/12/15/probation-officer-admits-relationship-prisoner-hmp-belmarsh-25501445/ https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/38203627/probation-officer-jailed-illicit-relationship-murderer-secure-prison/
    • The Commons Public Accounts Committee questioned both the CEO and MD of Capita yesterday, at their last meeting before the recess:  https://committees.parliament.uk/event/25889/formal-meeting-oral-evidence-session/.  In October they'd already expressed concern that Capita might not  be able to efficiently retake over responsibility for the administration within the timescale. Given the joint statement recently issued by Capita and the Cabinet Office I'm not sure that contacting an MP is going to add much, other than venting what I think most of us can probably appreciate of what those affected are likely  to be thinking and feeling; unless perhaps, and I hope it's not needed, to report on deficiencies in the immediate rescue actions.
