In the past few days my 7 month old has had two enormous projectile vomiting sessions after his evening bottle.

After he's puked all over him and me and his grobag he seems fine - happy, smiling and babbling away.

But I am worried that maybe I am making him sick? Maybe I am feeding him too much food and then the bottle on top of that makes him puke (though he only has about 120oz) or I should still be sterilizing his bottles, or go back to boob instead of bottle for his evening feed? The bottle is a new thing for him and its only been in the past few days that he's actually drinking from it.

I will take him to the health visitor tomorrow but I wondered if any other mums had similar experiences or could offer me any advice.

Thanks!

it could definitely be the teat, especially if he's spluttering a little or milk is dribbling from the the corners of his mouth during his feed. one other thing to consider, have you switched to formula in the bottle feed? i've been weaning my daughter off the breast and onto formula and she was initially quite sicky with the increase in formula, although 3 weeks into it now and i'm seeing a big improvement. i think she just needed some time to adjust to the change in milk.
This happened to my girl as well when she had the bottle. One time it was in the car, while on holiday- nice. I switched back to the newborn teat and it seemed to help a little bit, but then to be honest we went back to breastfeeding as it was all too much of a hassle. I think with her it was just much more liquid all in one go than she was accustomed to from the breast. Now she is bigger (1) she is learned to take smaller sips from the bottle or cup and she barely ever is sick.
Hi this happened for a few weeks with my dd when I went from breast to bottle. I agree with pp'ers, I think its a combination of the sudden large quantity of milk in the tummy and the change to formula. She was on a slow teat as well, so it just took time for her tummy to adjust. I used to have to put a large towel over my knee and half way over the sofa in case it all came back up. Took around 3 weeks to settle. Also try to get a decent gap between last meal and bottle. HTH x

Consider yourselves baby-rearing geniuses!

With a slower teat and generally a slower approach to the feed, tonight was brilliant. I think that he had been so anti the bottle that sub-consciously I was really forcing him to go fast otherwise I thought that he wouldn't do it.

But tonight we stopped and read a story half way through, winded him properly and he had a full feed of 210 ml (which he has NEVER done before) and is now fast asleep hugging his moomin toy.

If you are using a shop which doesn't give an itemised receipt, or doesn't give a receipt at all, just be aware that it might be a good idea to check that you are not paying over the odds (and if using cash, that you are given the right change for what you handed over). When staff are busy they might make mistakes.
    • As I had a moan on here about the truly abysmal Christmas meal we had at The Cherry Tree last year, I am redressing the balance by saying we had a really excellent Christmas meal at Franklins last night. Every course was absolutely delicious and  really well cooked. The staff were lovely despite being exhausted and run off their feet. In particular, my sea bass was a large portion and cooked to perfection, in stark contrast to the small dried up portion The Cherry Tree provided, from which I was barely able to scrape a teaspoonful of flesh (that is not an exaggeration). And our Franklins meal cost less than half what we paid at The Cherry Tree (to be fair, that was on Christmas Day so the Cherry Tree costs would have been higher, but that doesn't excuse the appalling quality meal). Thank you again to Franklins for restoring our faith in eating out at Christmas!
