numbers
Bet you haven't felt that good since Archie Gemmell scored against Holland in 1978? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/140036-t2-trainspotting/#findComment-1097552 Share on other sites
Loz
I must admit that when I first saw the posters I thought, "It's going be disappointing, isn't it?" And the reviews have been lukewarm, though saying the first half is better than the second. flocker spotter
Yes, was disappointed to see it is not on in ED. Who chooses which films show at our local Pic Hs? Every time I want to see a film I find I have to go to Brixton or Peckham. Help-Ma-Boab
Don't think it's on their roster. I asked a few weeks back. Went to Clapham Picture House last night instead.Mick Mac Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Not on at the EDPH yet.... But it's pretty chatty/basic. However, it is I discovered 'the oldest independent cinema' in the county. LouiseC
Not on a budget but a comfortable seat and a decent screen are all the same in the dark whether you pay a fiver or ?12-13...I'd prefer to spend the money on a nice meal! It's nice enough and I'd go again, but its quite pared back as you'd expect for a ?5And the pop corn sticks to you clothes. And the people behind and in front chatted throughout the film"She got well upset at that bit, she posted a crying emoji on snapchat" Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/140036-t2-trainspotting/#findComment-1097819 Share on other sites
malumbu
So if you go into the Plex expecting all of this I am sure you will get it.I am always pleasantly surprised although I do go to some of the less popular stuff. At the end of the run. I suggest that the Plex puts a sign up saying "no East Dulwich snobs" Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/140036-t2-trainspotting/#findComment-1098012 Share on other sites
uncleglen
I've just been reading all the Irvine Welsh books and am 3/4 of the way through Porno. So I won't go and see it until I've finished the book. I'm particularly interested in how the film deals with poor Juice Terry's little 'accident' and who on earth could they have cast for Curtis? Nigello
I understand that the movie was, although made in the mid-nineties, actually set a decade earlier, which would make the current sequel ten years out of date. Not that keen on seeing it, either way. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/140036-t2-trainspotting/#findComment-1098157 Share on other sites
????
I'm going to go along out of nostalgia but like seeing the Happy Mondays a couple of years ago I think it'll disappoint - that's the general view of the reviews i've read. Still looking forward to it though. Read the book just after it was published so was a bit snotty about the sudden rise of Welsh and Train spotting when the film came out. Welsh is of course a solid West Ham fan (goes quite a lot) and the ICF feature in one of his sequels (none of which i've rated to be honest) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/140036-t2-trainspotting/#findComment-1098161 Share on other sites
Jah Lush
Apparently it's nothing like the book (Porno, which is hilarious) and nostalgia is shit anyway. Not bothered. I'll probably watch it when it comes on the telly. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/140036-t2-trainspotting/#findComment-1098167 Share on other sites
uncleglen
Welsh being a WHU fan explains why Forest Gate got a mention in the book..I didn't think anyone who didn't actually come from that area would ever have heard of it Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/140036-t2-trainspotting/#findComment-1098240 Share on other sites
malumbu
Jonathan Coe mixes up Forest Hill and Forest Gate in the Rotters Club - sort of done on purpose apart from he didn't research public transport. Fortunately I had the chance to put him right a few years ago. Jeremy
FWIW I like peck Plex, and think it's good value. But the screen quality is not a patch on the picturehouse. And I've also experienced kids talking throughout (more mainstream) films. Jah Lush
I believe local heroes Fat White Family's Whitest Boy On The Beach plays as the credits role, which is a good thing as they might now be able to afford somewhere permanent to live instead living in squats or crashing on other people's sofas. They could certainly use the money. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/140036-t2-trainspotting/#findComment-1098435 Share on other sites

But there's a price premium on that obviously. Personally I found a lot of cinemas to be soulless spaces - and that feeling about other cinemas is heightened since EDPH opened. Its not a snobbish thing - its just a much nicer place to spend time.
