I am having real problems with feral pigeons at the moment - there are loads of them congregating on my roof, and next doors roof. Not only is there lots of nasty poo around, but there are lots of yucky feathers also. I have lived in ED for over 8 years, and it is only fairly recently that these dudes have arrived. I have a couple of bird feeders hanging in the garden aimed at little birds - however the pigeons have taken to landing on them and with wings outstpread shaking the feeders so violently that loads of seed then falls on the ground. Gah! I know that the obvious solution would be to remove the feeders - but is there any other way anyone can think of getting rid of them, short of resorting to a shot gun?

Minging, I know.

Get a fake Owl! When we moved in, there was one still in our garden but could tell what it is for. We don't have a problem with pigeons and dont want to risk it by removing said owl.

So a wooden pigeon would do but I've found this .... how can you resist?

I am still having the bleedin' pigeon problems. God I hate them. To add to the problem my next door neighbour has started feeding them. FFS! I have just been on the web trawling for pigeon pest control items - like spikes you attach to your roof, and some kind of gel stuff, that makes it tricky for them to land. I was wondering if anyone knows if this stuff works. I am going to get Mr WQ to go round there and sweet talk the old lady - we don't want to jeapordise our supply of plums/berries/rhubarb etc., oh and neighbourliness, most important. Tricky situation.

An air-rifle would dissuade them, it wont kill them unless you can hit their head, but you would knock out a few feathers and make them fly off.

I had the same problem at my place and what got rid of them was the sparrow-hawk havesting them.

They all went suddenly one day after I discovered the remains of a pigeon which resembled an indian chiefs war bonnet, no body left just a ring of feathered remains on the lawn.

Check this out peeps - I had always thought (until now) that Benjamity's post was a spoof:

Can't imagine it working in Trafalgar Square - although I understand they have a hawk - lucky things!

We have just installed pigeon spikes and so has our neighbour and that seems to have worked. We got them from a company on the internet called pigeonstop.co.uk but if you Google 'pigeon spikes' there are loads of companies that sell them. They were quite easy to install - we did it ourselves. Good luck!

    • My car was stolen a few months back from my driveway but I had a tracker and found it in a private car park in Lavender Hill close to the police station. I was lucky. The thieves hide it up against that eventuality. High spec cars are targeted I'm afraid. The way it was stolen required the thieves to wire in their own computer accessing a front light (which had had a metal sheet welded across which they prised off). They had searched for a tracker but not found it. They also had to cut away a steering wheel lock. They had to come well tooled up and briefed to do what they did. Beating them off is non trivial. As I said, them not finding my tracker was just lucky.
    • Been with The Gardens now for around 30 years and very rarely do I have a problem. I went in to collect a form and mentioned that my leg was hurting and hot- was seen immediately by the Practice nurse who then arranged an appointment on the Saturday with the Extra care service at TJ Centre where I saw a doctor, who then sent me off to Kings for further tests.. I recently booked a flu jab but appointment is in 2 weeks.
    • Have used Milk and More for years. When the price went up we cancelled a couple of pints but we still have 8 pints a week. If we are expecting family etc we buy from Sainsburys to top up. We kept on with M & M as if weather bad we could order extra stuff from them to save us a trip to Sainsburys Local. Also gives employment to our milkman.
    • Hi there, Our Lexus NX300H, (reg RF18BWO) was stolen off our driveway last night, Monday 27th October. It was there at 9pm, and had gone by 7am. If anyone has any footage on their doorbell or Ring, that would be super helpful. We have asked some neighbours and reported to the police etc.  Most upsettingly, there was a box of old family videos in the car boot, in an old Sainsburys box (photo attached). If anyone sees these dumped at the side of the road, please contact me asap! They are priceless videos that my deceased grandparents took. Thank you for any info, Jojo
