Did anyone go to the farmers' market in Peckham at the weekend? And was it any good, ie choice, price etc? It's the sort of thing I would like to see on Goose Green occasionally - I know we've got some good shops already, and the Northcross Rd market, but I don't think a farmers' market would necessarily be direct competition.

I was there on Sunday for the first time and was really impressed. Nice fruit and veg at decent prices (with knowledgeable growers selling themselves, not weekend staff), and got some lovely ham and a brace of partridge. Cheap as well. And reasonably quiet which is more than you can say for Borough Market. Handy to nip up and get your shopping, but not a "destination" day out like Borough.
I'm lucky I have no valuables to get lost, so feel free to wander the scary streets of Peckham whenever I please and I like the fact that if I buy from a producer in the Peckham Farmers Market (which I haven't done for a little while - too broke) it's about 30% less than when the same producer sells the same goods in Borough, Victoria or other farmer's markets. I love this aspect of shopping in Peckham!

I doubt it - I thought the point of farmers' markets was that everything had to be grown/produced within 30 miles?

Thanks for all the info and views btw. Will definitely try to get down to one or t'other next time they're on. I'd still like to have one on Goose Green though...

If anyone is interested, I found some info on the peckham market here, including a list of producers. I'm sure DC is on there as well.

Actually, I couldn't find reference to DC or Brixton on that site, which suggests that they may not be "certified" markets, i.e. no restrictions on what is sold, where it comes from etc. Which doesn't necessarily mean they're not worth going to of course but bear in mind it may be less "local" produce.

    • From the school newsletter:   A New Name for Dog Kennel Hill As you know we have been discussing and consulting with stakeholders about a  name change at DKH for a while. Following engagement with staff, pupils and  families, we gathered all views on a name change for the school and after  careful consideration of the feedback, the Local Committee and the Trust have  agreed with changing the school name to Grove Primary School from  September 2025.  Over the next few months we will begin a gradual process of changing our  name on signage, our website and emails etc. We will keep you updated.  We will be looking at designing a new logo to match the new school name and  will be working closely with a graphic designer to get creative. The school  council will be actively involved in this process. We will share the results with  you as soon as a design has been agreed and confirmed. We will be creating a  new school jumper to replace the old one, once the logo has been finalised. We  will phase this in over time.  We know that this is a welcoming change for some and that there are  parents and children who will be sad about the change. However, as a school  we think it will be a positive change for our school community and we will  work together to ensure that the ethos and culture of DKH will remain!
