I did it. so I started from being able to run for 5 mins, and then just kept upping it bit by bit. aim to run for five k and dont worry if its a mix of walking and running, it takes a while to get fitness levels up. and make yourself a ipod tune list (if you run the same route with the same play list you can measure how youre doing with where you are when a certain song comes on. I did my first 10 k this year, the adrenaline gives you a bit of a boost, its amazing feeling and when i finished i cried like a big girl. I didnt use a personal trainer as I am way to tight but lots of people like the additional discipline.

good luck!

Look up the 'Couch to 5K' courses to start with and don't skimp on the early stuff.

It's tempting sometimes to skip the odd break and push yourself for an extra few minutes in the early stages since you feel OK. Don't do it... it's those early low intensity stints that get your heart fit and lay the foundations for comfortable running later. I'm speaking from experience having done it both the wrong way and the right way.

10K is a lovely distance... do-able in an hour for most people so training doesn't take shedloads of time out of your week and it's quite a relaxing distance.

If you go to 'Whats on in E'dulwich' you will see FREE! Fitness in your Park.

This contains powerwalkers, joggers and runners - working together, they meet at 10am on Saturdays at the Rye, or contact [email protected]. There will be a 2.5Km & 5Km on the Rye for February, so you have an event to focus on. In this group, you will work your way up from zero to the level you aspire to.

Tuesday evenings Loulou takes a FREE jogging / running group which meets at the bottom of the Rye.

If you are looking for a Personal Fitness Trainer, I can recommend a lady who works in Schools, outdoor groups and trains celebs for events or getting ready for filming. One of her clients has Fibromyalgia and have been training together, starting for her first 5Km last year, then increased to a 10Km and completed a 1/2 marathon in september.

For 2011, Project London Health will be setting up specific 5Km, 10Km & 20Km (1/2 marathon) trials.......

I hope this helps

    • Direct link (sorry duplicated!):  Today, more than 30 states from around the world will gather in Bogotá, Colombia, for the “Emergency Conference” to halt the Gaza genocide: the most ambitious multilateral response since Israel began its campaign of devastation two years ago. Bringing together a broad coalition of governments — from Algeria to Brazil, China to Spain, Indonesia to Qatar — the conference aims, in the words of Colombian President Gustavo Petro, “to move from condemnation to collective action.” At 10:30 Bogotá, 11:30 New York, 16:30 London and 17:30 Paris, we invite you to join this historic gathering's opening ceremony live from the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. You will hear testimony from Dr. Thaer Ahmed, who will recount his experience of working in Rafah and Khan Younis amidst Israel’s genocide. Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, will detail her government’s concrete commitments to uphold international law. After she was sanctioned by the Trump administration, UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese will deliver a powerful message about the failure of the international system to protect the Palestinian people — and urge immediate and coordinated action by principled states. “Here in Bogotá, a growing number of states have the opportunity to break the silence and revert to a path of legality by finally saying: enough. Enough impunity. Enough empty rhetoric. Enough exceptionalism. Enough complicity,” Albanese will say. Today, the call from Bogotá will echo around the world. Join us. In solidarity,  The Progressive International Secretariat
