I quote directly from the letter sent to me from the CEO's office. It may refer to on-site secure parking (in mitigation) which I would not know about

The main driving reason to relocate is size. East Dulwich Delivery Office does not have enough capacity for the increase in parcels and doesn?t have sufficient parking for our vehicles. Peckham Delivery Office has the capacity to alleviate all these issues.

I thought the parking mentioned at the meeting was referring to the staff's own cars (they can drive to work and park in Sylvester Road, but won't be able to in Peckham).

I don't recall that there was any mention at all of lack of parking for Royal Mail vehicles.

  • 4 weeks later...

Royal Mail's annual profits have jumped 25% thanks to better-than-expected growth in its parcel delivery business.

Parcel deliveries rose 3% thanks to shoppers' insatiable appetite for online shopping, although the number of letters posted fell by 6%.

Royal Mail put the rise in parcels down to upgraded computer systems, which allow the packages to be sorted faster.

Pre-tax profits rose to ?335m in the year to 26 March from ?267m, while revenues grew 1% to ?9.8bn.

Over the last few Sundays there have been 6-8 RM vans comfortably parked at the back of the delivery office in Pellatt Road, with on one occasion one in Crystal Palace Road.

There is a protest against this closure TOMORROW in Sylvester Road, but for some reason my post about it has been moved to the "What's On" section.

Anyway, more information here:

It's at 1.30pm and Helen Hayes will be there.

I had some standard responses to the email and follow up email I sent to the post office, really disappointing. Initially failed to answer my questions directly and then said at a cost I could have parcels dropped off at other post offices locally (if those post offices were partaking).

Consultation based on my experience means decisions have been made and I think their approach is distasteful to their customers. Their initial email drew out how they would look after their employees, which I found rather silly to draw out given they are required by law to do xyz, so no, they are just doing what they need to, rather than benefit employees - and have no regard to the community.

Staff were informed today that the consultation has now closed and Royal Mail have decided to close the office and move to Peckham. It will take some months because work will need to be done on the building, duties will need to be reorganised and extra vans purchased to replace the trolleys. Very disappointing for both staff and customers.

Indeed. Hit them and their shareholders in the wallet. If the package isn't urgent, get them to redeliver for free:

    • Hi, I'm after some free moving boxes in good used/reusable condition. Large, Medium and small size and any packing spare materials you might want to pass on. Reduce, reuse, recycle. I'm not moving home for a few months, so if something comes up later on, please do DM me. I will keep this post open/active until found. Many thanks
    • Anyone know why temporary lights were put in on East Dulwich Grove on Sunday but as of 8am this morning no works are evident ? I imagine works are planned but have been delayed but the team putting in the lights have gone ahead anyway. 🙄 Just as well Alleyns and JAGS have finished...
    • A bit like Levi Bellfield. It's not a good look.
    • The reference to helicopters (plural) is exceptional.  I don't think I've seen any instance, here or in any TV police-at-work series, where more than one at  a time has been said to be involved.  A google search found, in the first three pages, just two cases, since 2010, where two helicopters were reported.  In both instances these involved police forces in two adjoining county areas, where perps in cars were being sought immediately after robberies.
