My husband just opened the door to a guy who had his hand (which was covered in a handkerchief) in our letterbox. When my husband asked what he was doing he said he was looking for somebody called Jonathan. When my husband asked what he wanted Jonathan for, the guy looked flustered and just said he was his mate and that he must have the wrong house number. So he went next door and asked there and ran off when the guy told him there was nobody of that name living there either. Very strange. The guy was about 6ft, around 50 in age, black and smoking a cigarette. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Reminds me of an incident when I was a child. I woke up to see a hand in out letterbox trying to hook wire over the lock (to open it). I got my dad up and when he went to the door it was the same story...someone claiming to be looking for someone.

This guy had his hand in your letter box because he was trying to break in or to steal...report it to the Police with a description.

Nah - that'd break the door - metal stick in the gas and sssssizzzzzzle

A friend and I were once on a sleeper train in India. The guy in the bunk above my friend turned all pervy during the night and started fumbling downwards to get a feel of her breasts so she took a lighter and lit it under his fingers - job done.

Reminds me of a story I heard a sweet little old lady tell.

She was sitting in front of the fire as someone removed a panel of leaded light from a top casement window,

as the hand came through to feel for the window handle she held the hot poker in position for the thief to grab.

I can almost smell the burning skin, no more thieving for a few weeks. Not that I'm condoning such action .. of course.

    • Ha ha that's hilarious - how wonderfully embarrassing for Reform!
    • Closing down completely. The lovely people there are all retiring. Thanks, but Deptford is a long way to go to make two journeys to  take and collect a car! Do they not do even relatively minor repairs if it fails its MOT first time? Then that would require four journeys 😭 Wondering if there's already a thread on here for garage recommendations? People on my road WhatsApp group have recommended some local ones. I'm particularly gutted because apart from the lovely people who worked there,  Dell was a five minute walk for me!
    • I did think that might be the reason, but five years out of seven it's going to be a weekday (I think. Not sure how leap years might affect things!)
    • Probably because the 5th was a weekday. We still have the weekend to come. Also, some fireworks going off nearly every night for the last few months. Last night something was being let off that made a very deep booming noise every 10 seconds or so. That said, if the general public are beginning to see the harm done by firework noise and choosing to use low noise options and refusing to support organised events that still use the full throttle type, I for one would be very happy. Does anyone know if the Herne Hill Velodrome Halloween fireworks event used low noise options?
