None of the above comes as a surprise. Still good for a drink on a walk for me, but won't be paying the best part of a score for sausage & mash. The Dulwich Estate surpasses itself once more.

Nice tables out the front though.

There's a few people on here HMB who probably went up on the soft opening night to 'be seen' sat in the front garden. Thinking about it, half of those people requesting to 'eat their food out the front cos it's a nice day', more than likely just wanted to 'be seen' attending the long awaited reopening yada yada. All the predictable suspects, wanting to spend 20 quid on a basic meal so that people can stare at them. Don't get me stared.

Sadly Lou, this place just doesn't have that cache.

I think they sat staring at each other, and I swear as I passed a woman mouthed "H E L P !" at me.

Exactly. Just business as usual at M&B folks. A wasted opportunity really. Wish that old Hotel Du Vin rumour had been true.

I'm in two minds, in a way its a shame that it didn't get a recognisable facelift, but many will like that it retained the old character.

I thought the Irish bar manager from the Plough was taking over? If so I'd suggest he will get his staff in order and all will be fine in due course.

The food will just be the food you'd expect from MB unfortunately.

Had a meal on Saturday as part of the soft launch. Glad it was 50% off as it was pretty uninspiring stuff. Dry sourdough and asian style chicken wings for starters. They were out of steaks so guinea fowl for mains which was ok but salty and portion size not worth the full ?17. Sticky toffee pudding for desert was fine.

Service was very chaotic but I'm sure this will improve. Men's toilet had a burst tap and the whole floor was flooded. There were also problems with the card machines which meant that dinners had to quick up at the busy bar to pay for dinner.

Won't be eating here again, but a good pub for drinking.

    • But you have to assess whether these persistent drivers are creating more safety issues than diverting emergency vehicles on a longer route and clearly they are not. The fact members of the pro-closure lobby have built their argument on this actually shows how desperate, some would say selfish, they are to have the junction closed and just the way they want it. And unfortunately they seem to have the council over a barrel on something as the council weakly concedes to their position without hesitation. Was this not borne from an FOI that said one of the emergency services confirmed that they had not been consulted on the new DV design that Cllr Leeming then said was actually a mistake by the emergency services - and then it's a case of whether you believe Cllr Leeming or not....and his track record is hardly unblemished when it comes to all things LTNs?
    • A song thrush visited my back garden today. I watched as it smashed open a snail by whacking it against the patio.
    • I have no doubt that local people are genuinely involved (and personally can understand their not wanting to publicise their involvement). That said the proliferation of One groups across London and the degree of co-ordination suggests it is more than just a local grassroots group. I’m not really that interested, except that many of their supporters do bang on about transparency and accountability. I would be interested in the substance of their latest missive. Who has been pressurising the emergency services and how? Who genuinely believes that people are partially covering their plates and driving through due to inadequate signage? Sounds a little ridiculous / desperate. It feels like it may be time for them to start coming to terms with the changes tbh.
