New business on LL

As a long-time and avid yellow poster snooper, I noticed that the bookies' as was on LL, near to the video shop, could become a ladies' beauty parlour.

Also, would anyone else second my desire that Strada should set up shop on LL? There is no pizzeria for miles, save P Express in the Village and that doesn't count. Imagine having a pint in the Bishop then a nice fiorentina in Strada where that benefits place used to be, or in place where the Woolwich is. (A poster said it was closing in September.)

I agree that an M and S or a Planet Organic or Waitrose wouuld be no good, but Strada is a very good chain. It is hardly in the same league as Tesco etc, with only about 10 branches around London.

Do you agree that there is a laock of a good pizzeria or Italian?

I think there's been a fair bit of discussion about the lack of a proper Italian somewhere already.. and I think the general opinion was 'yes'.

I agree that the standard of food is better in Strada than in some other modern-italian sleek eateries ('sleekeries'?), but I think the best Italian restaurants are always the small family-run ones, lower in price, higher in charm and quirk (like good neighbourhood restaurants in Italy)

I'd definitely be pleased if an Italian restaurant opened on LL. And while I'd prefer an independent, family-run place I wouldn't be too upset if it were a Strada instead.

Something along the lines of La Porchetta on Upper Street (for those who know it) would certainly tick all my boxes.

Hmmm, Strada is a good Italian, but I hate chain stores. It would be just another notch in the belt for chain stores taking over ED. I'd rather hold my breath. A good independent Italian restaurant will open eventually.

Nah. Pizza Express has only two highchairs and the one next door is simply awful. They're of limited appeal to the ED crowd.

Pizza Express really isn't that great (but - highchairs aside -they are child friendly, so we go there). And can the Bella Pasta offerings (next door) count as 'Italian food'? (shiver).

A good honest Italian restaurant on LL with good honest grub would be beyond wonderful!

(ducks, in case the anti-gentrifiers start throwing brickbats).

I will be plugging for Carluccio's - fantastic food, affordable, highchairs and a great kids menu - ?5 for a starter, pasta meal, juice and an ice cream!! Wonderful!

If it's good quality Italian restaurants you want then just venture up into Crystal Palace, Lorenos and Joannas to name just two of the many Italian restaurants crammed into crystal palace parade! (theres also the fab Italian at the bottom of Gypsy Hill and bordering Alleyn park)

oh really interesting i was told it was a bit crap and tastless would you recomend it then?

I like chopsticks but it's a bit hit and miss. The good stuff is great but the bad stuff is just awful. For instance the chicken in cashew nuts is... well, words fail me (in a bad way). But the crispy lamb in plum sauce is good.

Actually, now that I think about it the quality does seem to be decreasing gradually as time goes by...

I don't really like Wagamama's though.

The nearest proper chinese is Hong Kong City at the New Cross end of Old Kent Road, which is v good, esp for dim sum
