A lot of speculation about what engine it will use ? heavily modified version of existing (a la Fallout) or new (incorporating buts of id Tech 5 which they acquired last year)

A year seems like a long time to wait tho doesn?t it?

A new SSX game announced too, but it seems to dispense with much of what people loved about the originals.. bah

Another big request for Elder Scrolls 5 ? get rid of the rubbish enemy-levelling employed in Oblivion. I LIKE starting a game knowing if I get cocky some foes can KO me in one fell swoop. And I like taking the risk for greater reward. But knowing that all the way through the game everything you get is the same, because everything levels accordingly is really frustrating

And the person who wrote the Dark Brotherhood quests and storyline? Get them to do all of it in the new game

Oh and another thing ? Oblivion gates. Don?t do anything as silly as them again.

That was far and away the most annoying thing about the game, breaks every rule of levelling reward. Very very annoying.

I didn't minds the gates, though very repetitive, plus the enemy legroom g sort of works within that context. Or at least do something similar with enemy levelling as new areas are revelead.

If it sounds like I?m being too harsh on the game, I should point out it?s only because I love it ? I spent more hours on that game than anything else and still like to have a wander throught that world even now

And keef is so right about lockpicks ? before I got the skeleton key I used to sit in front of some locks and whimper with frustration (knowing full well that what was behind the fekkin thing probably wasn?t worth it anyway)

I've been playing RE5 with the move controller, and loving it. Although the game is probably a bit weaker than RE4.

If I delete a game that is saved to my xbox hard drive, will I also lose all my game progress, or is that stored elsewhere? Thinking of taking Oblivion off, but definitely don't want to lose my progress, as still have quite a lot of quests to do.

Definitely time to play something else though!

Right, having one a couple of hours of each of my 3 games, first impressions are good.

Assasins Creed 2 - Seems fun, and actually reminds me a bit of Spiderman 2 (the movie) on Gamecube, in so far as you get to do lots of running around rooftops, and looking at the city from the highest tower.

GTA4 - I like, although the driving bit gets on my tits a bit. It's fun though, and the radio stations are cool.

RDR - Saved this til last. It looks amazing from the off, and I think I am going to love this game!

It's all about Nam this evening, surely? Some heavy shit going down (bfbc2 Vietnam released), smoked some bad grass, smoked some Gooks etc. Played as a, so called 'Gook' and got smoked. Having said that, I had an absolutely fantastic meal at Song Que recently. So it all turned out well I suppose....

Partly because of keef's post, partly because of spare time over Christmas holed up with the snuffles, and partly because I regret not continuing past the hand-holding missions at the beginning when I first got it, but I fired up Red Dead Redemption a lot over the last few days and am seriously loving it

An early mission had me searching out some old geezer who lives alone in a shack in the middle of nowhere. I was supposed to buy the place off him for some prospector but he wanted $200. I had $35 on me.. As I stood there thinking about ways I could raise the money, the skies opened and the mother of all storms started pelting down and then I thought about the long schlep back to town. I looked again at the old guy, out here in the middle of nowhere and thought ?I could just do him in and take the deed to the house. NOONE is going to know?

But I couldn?t.. so I just schlepped back to town, got drunk and lost all my money at the poker table and switched off the game in a sulk

Interesting review from Philip French ? the sometimes sniffy film reveiwer at the Observer/Guardian ? basically someone who doesn?t do videogames

Ha ha, I'm the same, just can't kill the innocent. How stupid. By the way. Best way to make easy money, is the game with the knife and your fingers. Work up to $100 dollar bet, and it's the same button sequence every time. Then you can just bet 100 each time.

Good tip for the cash - cheers

It's par for the course for some missions in Rock* games to be really frustrating - it can take dozens of attempts to get past some and then when you do it's plain sailing.

But none of them are as hard as being a prostitute in the towns... those poor girls get picked on A LOT

although, if one is to live one's life by the maxims of others, ouw Bwian wouldn't be first on the list

Anyway, you miss the point. Unlike many (most) other games where killing is rather the point, to have ambiguity introduced gives pause for thought and reflection. And it's only baby steps compared to the future where games continue to evolve and present much more than shooting galleries

But if mayhem is your thing, then there is nothing in the game to stop you (say) lassoing some scrote beating up on a woman, dragging him out to the bear-infested woods, throwing a whole bunch of meat on top of him and watching him suffer as the bears come out for a feed

or leaving him on the train track waiting and waiting for the next train

Just sayin...

    • Every year they ask for more and every year it is an exhausting process pushing back on that for local residents and councillors. What annoys me is that at the post event consultation/ feedback this year, I specifically asked them if the rumours around applying for two weekends next year were true. They told me no. So that was a lie. Anyway, we go again.

    • Rant ahead: You're not one of them but unfortunately, there's a substrate of posters here that do very little except moan and come up with weird conspiracy theories. They're immediately highly critical of just about any change, and their initial assumption is that everyone else is a total fucking contemptible idiot. For example: don't you think that the people who run the libraries will have considered the impact of timing of reconstruction on library users? (In fact, we know they have - because they've made arrangements at other libraries to attempt to mitigate the disruption). After all, these are the people that spend their whole working week thinking about libraries and dealing with library users (and the kids especially). You don't go into the library game for the chicks and fame - so it's fair to assume that librarians are committed to public service and public access to libraries, including by kids. Likewise the built environment people (engineers, architects, construction managers, project managers, construction contractors, subcontractors or whoever is on this job) are told to minimise disruption on every job they do. The thing that occurs to us as amateurs within 30 seconds of us seeing something is probably not something a full time professional hasn't thought about! Southwark Council, the NHS, TfL, Dulwich Estate, Thames Water, Openreach - they're not SPECTRE factories filled with malevolent chaosmongers trying to persecute anyone. They're mostly filled with people who understand their job and try to do their best with what they've been given - just like all of us. Nobody is perfect or immune from challenge, and that's fair enough, but why not at least start from the assumption that there's a good reason why things have been done the way they have? Any normal person would be pleased that their busy, pretty, lively local library is getting refurbished, and will have more space and facilities for kids and teens, and will be more efficient to run and warmer in winter. But no, EDT_Forumite_752 had kids who did an exam 20 years ago, and this makes them an expert on library refurbishment who can see it's all just stuff and nonsense for the green agenda and why can't it all be put off... 😡😡😡
    • I completely misread the previous post, sorry. For some reason I thought the mini cooper was also a police vehicle, DUH.
