Keef - this one's for you

No More Heroes

I haven't watched THIS one yet because work blocks it but his reviews are always funny and almost certainly very insulting to the games you and I love...

Thanks to MockneyPiers for introducing me to these reviews as well

Hi everyone - first time poster so sorry if I've missed any discusssion on the subject , but are there any Final Fantasy fans on here?

I started with VII but have been looking at the re-released earlier titles on DS and PSP and wondering if they are any good?

Thanks LizzyGotDizzy!

I was looking forward to the 360 games from the FF creator but was very disappointed with the first one (Blue something?) although I gather Lost Odyssey is much better

(and the name: best villain in a game ever? The name is usually already taken on other forums so I'm glad to be able to use it!)

Have to say VII one of my all time favourites, though the one where you had to raise your own chocaboos and the chocaboo racing arena was fun too! I haven't played any in ages though my kids have and have had the PS2 ones which do have beautiful graphics but I just can't seem to get into those ones, Tidus and all those characters. You might like Legend of Legaia if you are into these or Dragon Quest, (the later ones) but still they don't touch FF!

VII definitely my favourite

VIII - didn't like the characters or the levelling up of the enemies. Or the Draw system. Some nice technical advances I thought

IX - Didn't get on with it at all. Lot's of fans say they like the return to old style. I found it a bit twee

X - underrated in my book. Finished this one with 150 hrs on the clock

XI - online. Had a go.... deleted immediately

XII - classic. Some great updates to the battles and some good characters. I wouldn't include the lead in that category

Is there one on PS3? I know one is promised but not aware of it any time soon

Never done an FF, my young step brother loves them though.

I watched the film once, had noooooo idea what all that was about.

Mind you, I watched Geeks favourite Serenity on Saturday and gave up about half way through; terrible editing, it made even less sense than the FF film!!

I'm guessing you need to have watched the series.

I saw the original FF film and thought it was nothing like the games in terms of atmosphere or setting. Pretty poor, I haven't seen Advent Children but have heard much better things

I enjoyed Serenity despite not having seen any of the series. It did seem bound by budget considerations however.

Mario Kart hasn't been gathering very good reviews - from either the high-end specialist press (Edge) or the rest. It is probably still monumentally good fun in the short term but I don't have a Wii so can't pass judgement really

RE: FF, I have spent many hours of my life watching a friend playing them, and I have to admit I found them more entertaining to watch whilst sitting and smoking fags / drinking beer to actually play. I am more a fan of the Zelda type fantasy RPGs.

RE: Mario Kart, not played it myself yet, but my friend got it last week, and describes it as f**king sick... He is Australian, and this is high praise indeed. Apparently the battles are amazing, and it has a retro section where you can unlock classic tracks and battles. He gives it a big thumbs up, so I think I shall treat myself when I have finished a couple of games.

Ah, Zelda. Barren are the years between new releases...although, The Twilight Princess lacked a certain something. Dont get me wrong it was great in parts but...I dunno, t'was lacking something. As for FF, I made the mistake of playing The Crystal Chronicles on The Gamecube and quite frankly it stank the place out. I've run in fear from all other FF games since. Shame.

I'm not sure TP was missing something, I think we may have just played the same game once too often. It's lovely but beginning to get a tad jaded, like oooh, I dunno, Felicity Kendall.

Though, yeah, it did steer you more towards the linear adventure than some pervious, with less pointless (but fun) side stuff to do.

Same goes for the DS one, though still a joy to play.

    • I'm guessing that most people with pets would not bring either the pets or fireworks into their day to day conversations, to complain or otherwise. Are you suggesting that only "timid" pets are scared by fireworks? What evidence do you have for that, exactly?  Or are you equating being scared of fireworks with being "timid"? And what about the foxes and other wildlife? Is it ok for them to be scared? Firework noise is not a noise that "comes with normal city living" ! What a very strange thing to say! Are you one of the people who have been constantly letting off fireworks recently? I'm assuming you don't have any pets yourself, or you wouldn't have these opinions, but if you do have pets, please share how they react when they hear loud bangs. Unless they are goldfish, in which case you probably wouldn't be able to tell.
    • Well, I know a lot of people in London with pets and I've never heard any of them complain about fireworks.  Maybe what's not ok is keeping timid animals in a metropolis when they are scared of the noises that come with normal city living.
    • We git a ticket when we tried to park there to watch the fireworks.  Anyways we didn't even get a space and so we didn't actually park.  But we got a penalty notice.  We just paid up.  And we won't be taking our car their ever again.  You probably needed a Southwark council visitors permit.  I imagine it would have needed to be booked online B4 or by the end of the day that you parked. Beat thing to do is contact Southwark Council Estate parking to clarify the situation.   I hope your freebie was worth the value of your penalty.
