2 EDT related notes

Free as I am to do what I will this week, I went for lunch at EDT today (bumped into rare-as-hen's-teeth-postings forumite Steph - looking gorge) and had a very pleasant time. Bar staff were in great form and landlord said hello as well - plus both went out of their way when I had the tiniest problem imaginable with the food. Speaking of the menu I understand they might be going Italian soon? Anyway, thanks a million guys

Secondly - is anyone going to the comedy this Thursday night?

Upstairs at EDT is a fabulous location, a fabulous venue and has pretty good food for the price. I've always found the floor staff to be friendly and helpful. The only area it's fallen over in the 3 or so years I've been going there is the speed of service from the kitchen.

Time and time again I've left the restaurant thinking "sorry but that wait time was ridiculous, I'm not going back there." However the rest of the place is good enough to have kept me hanging on and going back on the odd occasion, just to see if it's improved. The last time was not so bad so I'm still hanging in there and popping in on the odd occasion.

All in all upstairs at EDT is a great place, but not great enough to keep me as a frequent visitor, rather an occasional one. I reserve the frequent visits for the likes of Thai Corner, Hisar and Franklins as they all have something special to offer and I never leave with any negative thoughts about the place in my head.

    • Who was Diana Rayworth, when 'resting from acting'. Her successful career was very sadly cut short following a devastating accident.
    • thanks Jenijenjen and all - yes, i remember walking or taking the bus from the elephant (where i was working) to Camberwell to get there.  I think Tim - who's still at Franklin's -  was there in those days, and the woman who ran the cafe!  Other food places that i remember fondly are the ones in Neal's Yard (with the Hunkin sculpture that you could put a coin in ) and the basement lunch place at the Tottenham Court Road junction with Hanway Street...
    • Did you try the emergency number posted above? It mentions lift breakdowns over the festive period outside the advertised  times. Hope you got it sorted x
    • People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
