I mean this in a kind way as cyclist etc...

and obviously we didn't see it happen so do not know the facts

But sometimes.... both parties can share the blame, non?

Or is that not how it works these days.

I mean i know 'legally' etc etc... but seriously.

The scenario being discussed above would appear

to me to be, both parties at fault.

Regardless of 'legal' rights and wrongs...

Just arguing over degrees of blame based on supposition etc

*waits to be flamed*

*edit to add* my point has nothing to do with the OPs accident.

Why don't you go back to the scene the same time next week and ask around?

Perhaps some of the local shopworkers saw it?

Hope you heal up soon.

I was knocked off a couple of years ago whilst I was in a cycle lane by a left turning van that didn't indicate.

Sounds like some of the people on here would have blamed me for that.

I too forgot to get witnesses' names in the heat of the moment but the driver did eventually pay for the damage.

The threat of claiming off their insurance normally does the trick.

D.J.

Thank you for your invitation to try it.

I wish I could do just that!

Most members are aware of my condition,

That I suffer from Cervical Spondylosis the degeneration of the cervical spine in the neck.

I wear a neck collar and walk with a Zimmer frame.

Just a little of what I have to live with.

What is Cervical Spondylosis?

The back of the neck includes the cervical spine and the muscles and ligaments that surround and support it. The cervical spine is made up of seven bones called vertebrae. The first two are slightly different to the rest as they attach the spine to the skull and allow the head to turn from side to side. The lower five cervical vertebrae are roughly cylindrical in shape - a bit like small tin cans - with bony projections. The sides of the vertebrae are linked by small facet joints. Between each of the vertebrae is a 'disc'. The discs are made of a tough fibrous outer layer and a softer gel-like inner part. The discs act like 'shock absorbers' and allow the spine to be flexible.

Regards I hope you stay fit.

DipDap was knocked off his or her bike and is asking if there were any witness'. Other than a few kind words of sympathy can't it be left at that? Does every possible aspect of the post have to be debated and the minutiae picked over obsessively? Too many unsolicited, and not particularly helpful, opinions. (Mine being the most recent.)

DipDap, I was knocked off my bicycle a while back and was similarly shocked. I wish you a speedy recovery!

The reason that a simple request for witnesses to an accident can't be left simply as that Marcus is because this is the Forum and the joy of the Forum is that its full of people with opinions and thus we go from the particular to the genral in but a few simple steps. Thus ever it was.

For the particular case; hope you are not shaken up too badly DipDap and that you are back in the saddle already.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hello DipDap

I've just read through the thread with interest. I hope you have recovered well and are back in the saddle. If you are, I would advise booking a lesson or two with a National Standards qualified cycle instructor. You can look one up through the CTC website. I can vouch for the fact that we are rigorously trained and assessed!

Alternatively, check out the book 'Cyclecraft' by John Franklin. It's the highway code for cyclists. Either option will give you lots of good advice about road positioning, making it easier for other road users to spot you.

Cheers

Mark

    • Just to warn anyone thinking of employing or engaging Chris and Anna Richmond, that nothing has changed.  The accounts above from others are all too familiar.  A job that we were told would take between 6-8 months is now entering its 23rd month.  They have taken enormous amounts of money from us, finished nothing, and the quality of the work that they have delivered is poor to substandard.  They take no responsibility themselves - there are endless excuses and everything is someone else's fault.  They do not care about the impact that their actions have on anyone else.   They are, at best, chaotic. They have not delivered as the designers or project managers that they claim to be. They are rarely on site to monitor the progress or quality of the job that is being delivered and they and manage their largely non-English speaking workforce by WhatsApp and Google translate.  There has been little evidence that they employ the skilled tradespeople needed to lay tiles, install bathrooms and kitchens, decorate and complete to the standard that we have paid for.  I cannot stress enough, that if you are currently in discussion with Anna and Chris Richmond about a future job or have paid them money up front for a job that they have slipped in delivering, to quit while you are ahead.  Things won't get better.
    • Hi All, I’d like to recommend Aaron Manser, who several others on this forum have also used. Aaron is an excellent plasterer, and has just finished a complicated piece of plastering work for me, including a large expanse of ceiling. His work has been of the highest quality, his attention to detail is exceptional, and he’s also very quick, and tidy too. As an added bonus he has a lovely singing voice. Happy to provide any photos of the work he has done. This is the third time over the past few years I’ve had Aaron back. Aaron Manser - 07773 410661 Regards, Damien
    • I really have to smile as I was the one, years ago who posted about what Gala was.. had not a clue, but drove and drive regularly. Felt such a fool at the time but wow, years later post still comes up.. with comments. Still don’t understand why a lot of park is cordoned off and glad not a resident overlooking park.. must be so noisy but now dates have been kindly supplied, those that don’t want to chill and listen to music in their flats/houses can up sticks and explore UK or abroad. Totally understand that in a built up area and millions in London, music events take place all over the capital to allow access to all.  Brockwell  Park, Dulwich Park, don’t hear anything going on in or around Telegraph Hill or indeed Horniman Gardens.. Crystal Palace I believe do their own thing.  Do these events , clearly charge, provide their own insurance, public liability, crowd control, first aiders, security and policing? Rubbish clearance etc
    • Personally I think the second weekend has always been a tactical ploy with no real intention of going ahead with it. The council then turn it down (saying they have listened to us, which of course they haven’t) and announce that they will only license one weekend. GALA get the result that they want - job done. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the council even suggested this ploy, they are so desperate to keep the event.
