jane7
I ripped an expensive new typre while driving along Peckham Rye on Friday, there was a burst water main and a huge hole in the road concealed by water I drove straight into it and promptly got a flat tyre and damaged front and back wheel rims, its going to cost me a fortune. Anyone had any experience trying to claim from the council for car damage due to poor road maintence? Asset
yes, my partner successfully claimed for damage to a bicycle wheel after riding over a huge pothole or something like that, can't remember what. Take photo's etc. and write them a stinker. PM if you need any more info as he's not here at the mo'. Peckhamgatecrasher
Any one else trying to resist mentioning Bernard Cribbens?Sorry Jane - too good to pass on that one. Hope you do well with your claim - I suspect photographic evidence of the damage to your car and of the hole will help. SimonM
If this is the terrible leak on/near Piermont Green - which has been there a few weeks now and shows no signs of being fixed - I wonder if the guys building the new flats are responsible? Asset
Hi Jane7,A few years ago I claimed from Southwark when I rode round a dark wet corner and promptly went through a Fire Hydrant that was missing a cover. I lifted my front wheel but the rear rim got trashed. They were responsible for the Hydrant so I wrote a letter explaining what happened accompanied by an estimate from a shop, a photo of the hole (ruler across it) and a description of the location. They paid me for a wheel rebuild (?77 or so) pretty quickly without a struggle.Good luck.Mr Asset Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1568-hole-in-the-road-peckham-rye/#findComment-43277 Share on other sites
AllforNun
Well take a look down Hollydale road in Nunhead - the one with the 2 schools on - yep one's a primary school. It looks like the RAF were testing the runway bombs for the original gulf war down it, and yes it has been in that state since the 90's. But hey, no problem in 2004 the Lib Dems decided to re-surface some roads where they could win some votes, you know some of the more gentrified roads, of course they kept that plan like our RAF pilots...wait for it...under the radar...funny that! zephyr
You are right - Hollydale Road (especially the top part) is a disgrace. It is part of my round route having got a takeaway from Gibbon Road and it is so bumpy the bag always falls over. Seriouslt though I have deliberately avoided it on my motorbike in the past. Mrs Y
I reported the leak to Thames Water on 14th September and twice weekly from then on. On Friday evening around 6:30 pm I reported the two hugh potholes in the Road and was informed by Thames Water someone would look again that evening. I was delighted to see driving through Forest Hill Road on Saturday morning that it had been surrounded by barriers. I think you should get on to Thames Water. The leak is being casued by a burst water main on Piermont Green.
