Me and Mrs Me picked some sloes at the weekend and am wondering if anyone's got any special Sloe Gin recipes? I don't like gin in it's own but I like the sloe gin I've tried so now I've a bottle of Plymouth Gin, a bottle of Tanqueray and some sloes. Anything other than "sloes, gin and sugar" greatly appreciated.

thanks

Ingredients:

1 pound of fruit

1 pound of sugar

1 pint of gin

Or other quantities in proportion.

Prick the fruit (or freeze and defrost to break the cells down). Place in a large jar (must have a lid). Pour on sugar and gin. Shake well to disolve the sugar. Place in a cool place for several weeks. Shake the jar every week.

After a few months or so strain out the fruit (best to use a tea towel in a sieve), do this over-night to maximise the fruit flavour. Decant the liquer.

If you wish you can push the fruit mush though a sieve to make a puree. Store in an air tight jar - lovely with ice cream.

Cheers Michael, I've heard a teaspoon of almond essence is a good thing to add too

BarryRoad, managed to go round the accident on the M4 on Sunday and get on at Hungerford, but it did take 5 hours to get there on Friday because of a couple of strategically placed accidents. I'll give you a shout next time I'm going down.
