As someone who is fairly new to these Internet Forums, I?ve learned a bit over the last 24 hours.


? People do not read each other?s postings properly (I count myself as guilty here). We just skim read them and make up our minds about what that person is saying. We are influenced by what everybody else is saying on the forum about a particular posting and comment on that other posting without having actually read it properly. (I realise that most people on this forum wouldn't condone smashing any car up, the point I was trying to make was that we should not go around calling people we have never met ?cocks? and ?flash gits? ? and he really isn?t by the way)


? I think that some people make postings just to wind each other up (Fair dos, I?m doing it in the office at the moment with some Aussies over the Rugby ? and will probably live to regret it!)


? People feel a little braver behind a keyboard ? I assume most people would never dream of using words like ?cock? and ?flash git? to total strangers in a pub. Similarly, I myself feel quite at liberty to doubt the parentage of other drivers whilst I am behind the wheel of my unassuming little motor.


? These forums allow us to dehumanise situations and we forget that the object of the discussion is a human being. Maybe it?s someone who left school after O Levels, worked hard for years building up a local business employing local people, and now feels able to enjoy the fruits of his labour in whatever way he feels without actually harming anybody. Maybe it?s not.


So, Jeremy, the forum reflects life. We don?t listen to each other, we wind each other up, we feel brave when we don?t have to face people and we forget that guy opposite us on the train in Dulwich wearing a Man Utd shirt is also a human being.


My word it?s 10.30 and I need to get on with some work

We have monthly booze-ups so that people can put faces to names.

Good point while munging there Brendan.

People tend to be a little less in yer face after turning up to the drinks as that anonymity goes, plus we've discovered what a thoroughly decent bunch we all are.

Great to see someone argue for the right of people with no 'A' levels to own a Porsche without fear of inverted snobbery.


I suppose the point is that people without A levels will be the victims of snobbery and that if they also suffer inverted snobbery then that would be disproportionate and therefore they are entitled to some sort of double victimisation relief.


It's a cause that is rarely championed. Good one Jon.

Internet chat forums are are not the same as a drink down the pub. You may get a few less manners, but you may also get a bit more honesty and provocation - otherwise they would be as dull as dishwater.. no-one wants to read recommendations for plumbers all day long, do they?


Would I march up to a man who just got out of a Porsche with an '07 number plate and tell him he's a 'flash git'? Of course not. Would I think it? Yes, I would. Incidentally, if a good friend of mine turned-up one day in a brand new Carrera, I would have no hesitation in telling him he was a flash git and a cock. He'd tell me piss off and then we'd go to the pub. You can't possibly tell me that someone who has spent that much on a motor vehicle hasn't given a moments thought to what it might say about him - and hasn't already decided whether he cares a hoot or not?


As Sean says, we (all of us) judge other people all the time, and those judgements are made based on information available. If the information changes, we may revise out opinions. Your pal may be a wonderful human being and were I to discover it, I would revise my opinion to that of 'someone who is a wonderful human being - but who has a terrible taste in cars'. If we became good friends, I'd then be at liberty to tell him that he was a flash git and a cock, at which point he'd tell me to piss off and we'd go down the pub.

      I would ask a solicitor. You may be able to claim compensation. You can speak to Lease free for 15 minutes ( very worthwhile), and a no win no fee Sol.

      I am no expert by any means, but I wonder first if Foxtons belong to any kind of professional (I use the term loosely) body you could complain to, and second, if you have any grounds to take them to the small claims court. I am surprised and sorry that none of the people you have asked for help could actually help. To be fair, though, re the oven, they have offered to reimburse you for an air fryer, it is the weekend so probably difficult to get someone out to look at it,  and they seem to be addressing that problem at least pretty promptly? Do you have a grill and hob and kettle working OK? Also, is it not the owner's responsibility to address issues such as the mould and the bath?  Shouldn't Foxtons be liaising with them about this?  Oh, and this is not intended to be a joke - try asking ChatGPT (or similar) what you can do. It saves hours of googling  stuff online yourself.

      Hi,   I'm posting here because I am completely at a loss for how to deal with this anymore.   Is this standard for dealing with a letting agency? I'm new to living in the UK and I've been treated abhorrently by this agency from day one.  I've reached out to every organisation I can - the council, Shelter, trying to get to the property ombudsman, and the citizens advice bureau. My oven broke last night (Friday) and their solution until someone arrives (Monday) to even inspect the problem, is to buy an air fryer.    This is part of a long list of issues, including my bathtub joist that's rotted out and has broke so my bathtub is now falling into the floor, and has been that way waiting for repair for the last month. Our flat is extremely cold in the winter (due to failing the EPC) and the rising damp throughout the flat has not been addressed even though we've been reporting it consistently for the past year. All they do is send someone to install a dehumidifier for a week. Every time I need assistance from these people I have to wait on hold each step of the way, my property manager is out of office or they're on another line or I can't speak to them, if I begin an issue with one person at the organisation I get redirected to a new person (and that initial person is now unavailable), or they wait a week to call me back. It is truly unbelievable the amount of stuff I've had to live with under Foxtons. They wouldn't allow me to move into our property on the first day stated in the lease I signed (after I paid depot and first month) because they didn't do the work to make the property pass the EPC which they had multiple weeks to address. During those multiple weeks I would call them everyday asking for status updates. When the move in day arrived all they could say to me was 'we can't help you'. They didn't even do any work to resolve it in the long run, they just got a new inspector to give the flat a pass. This company has made my life hell for the past year and unfortunately I am stuck in the lease for now due to their shady letting agent practices.   If anyone can please provide me some tangible assistance that would be greatly appreciated. Reaching out to any of these agencies has not brought me any closer to a resolution and my partner and I are beyond our wits end dealing with property issues. I thought a letting agency was held to a higher standard than a private landlord and was supposed to make life easier for a tenant but it appears to be exactly the opposite.   I've attached some mold images so you can see what my flat looks like if I don't run a dehumidifier 24/7.
