It's very decent, although journey time can depend on whether you are travelling during rush hour or not. One advantage is that it will drop you in the centre of Oxford rather than at the station.

My family live in Oxford and I tend to use the Oxford Tube more frequently than the train, it's much cheaper.

Paddington isn't it?

Some of the trains to Oxford are remarkably noisy, and the station at Oxford isn't very conveniently situated unless you are being met or getting a taxi .....

There are trains to Oxford Parkway (north of Oxford) and Oxford city from Marylebone and from Paddington to Oxford city. I love the Marylebone train and would not go back to using the coach, but it depends where you want to end up. For me, visiting my parents who live a few miles north of Oxford, average journey time door to door with the coach is 3.5 hours and with the train, 2.5 hours, partly because I can get out of the train on the right side of Oxford. The train is much more dependable - I have had some horrendous coach journeys getting stuck in traffic. But I'd probably use the coach if I was going to Headington or that side of town.

I find the coach very convenient for the part of Oxford I go to (it makes several stops before the city centre).

It's very frequent, and extremely good value, particularly if you are returning the following day

And Victoria is easy to get to from ED.

ETA: However it is quicker to drive, though less relaxing.

That's a good price. Did you need to get specific trains?

I get a discount on the Tube due to my extreme age :))

    • Hello East Dulwich families 👋 I wanted to introduce myself to the community. I’m a professional family & wedding photographer with 14+ years of experience, and I split my time between the US and London throughout the year. I’ll be based in London for the coming weeks and would love to photograph more local families here in East Dulwich. My approach is very relaxed and natural — no stiff posing, no pressure — just real connection, movement, and the beautiful everyday moments that tell your family’s story. I work especially well with kids and parents who feel “awkward” in front of the camera (which honestly is most of us!). Sessions can take place at home, in the park, on your favourite street, or anywhere that feels meaningful to you. The goal is to create images that feel like your life — not a photoshoot. If anyone has been thinking about documenting this season with their children, I’d love to connect, answer questions, or simply share examples of my work. No pressure at all — just happy to be here and meet some neighbours. You can see my work here: https://bluesparkphotography.com/family/ (use the contact page on the site to send me a message if you're interested!).
    • I don't! But I've also taken to calling myself David, as it seems to shorten the odds of achieving something in life. It's not King Dave, Dave Lloyd George, Dave Hockney, Dave Bowie or Dave Hasselhoff is it? And I'm not sure Michelangelo would have had such success if he'd called his sculpture 'Dave'.
