What pubs do we think constitute an East Dulwich pub crawl and which one do you think it would be best to start in?

Thanks Narnia but there definatley some non SE22 pubs on this list. I was wondering about a purist SE22 walkable pub crawl. Do you start at the Plough or the Clock House or the Vale or is there another further that is SE22 and therfore does that make it an impossibility. Are there just too many pubs even if you did halfs????

The hearne and the forest hill tavern are both se22 I think, and they are quite out of the way.

If you?re being dogmatically SE22 then this route may work. It only takes in pubs. Once you start going into bar territory it just gets silly.

Some longish walks in that list Brendan, but early on, so you'll be sober enough not to wobble. All the later pubs are nicely close together!

I'd definitely move The Actress up the list, between The Hearne, and The CPT.

I'd get as far as the CPT, and jus stay there personally. Can't be doing with "the lane", especially if this crawl is going to take place on a Friday or Saturday evening.

Sadly but predictably I see only two "pubs" in that list.

I know the EDT is annoyingly putting out classes and cutlery (a trend I'm not convinced will last), but how can it not be a pub?

Or does any form of food (bar scratchings obviously) exclude pub membership?

I still think the plough has a bit of a pub feel, although it's a bit open. Proper pubs need to feel cosey, but that was lost when they ripped the guts oug of it, and created the Goose & Granite.

CPT stil' wins for me. Just never feel comfortable in EDT.

I'm more of a real ale rambler, myself. But I would've thought someting more along the lines of a 'tapas tour', 'bistro beano' or 'gastro galavant' would be more in keeping with the undeniably pretentious image of "the strip".

You can go to any part of the world, even this country, or even this town, and come across main drags with far more pretension.

You see it's "the image" that's pretentious.

ie people with chips on their shoulder pretend it's something worth getting het up over, all posh and intolerably full of accentless johhny come latelies; and not a pleasant but unremarkable main street in a relatively backwater suburb of London.
