Early morning flight ex Gatwick. Best way there?

I have a flight on easyJet ex Gatwick in mid July that leaves at 0810. I am only taking hand baggage and have not gone for the speedy boarding nonsense. Any advice on the best rail route to get there? I live near to Goodrich School, so can get to P Rye fairly easily and am not averse to getting up early. 0710 check in would be OK for check in? Thanks!

I'd normally get a bus to Forest Hill (197, 185, 176 from LL beyond Plough), then train it. Change at East Croydon.

197 does take you to E Croydon station with direct link to Gatwick, and it's not slow off-peak, but I'd use it for other lower-risk stuff, not for flights.

I commute weekly back from Gatwick Airport to London Bridge 35 mins for ?8 (southern) or ?9 FCC...anyone who uses the Gatwick Express, especially to or from SE22 is a deserving, marketing fooled sap

    • Sue, not quite sure of your glowing reviews.  Next time I suggest that you order extra, PM me and I will cycle round for a tasting.  I'm a tough critic just to warn you....
    • LTN is s**t. I live on LL and the traffic, noise and air pollution has never been worst since this ridiculous vanity project was introduced. It has to go - and it will.
    • There's a simple solution, let's have a referendum on the LtNs and Dulwich junction that is restricted to residents living within a mile of it. (This stops outside interference by organisations for either side) Then let's see if there is support for or against it and have a legal binding agreement that the results are respected and acted upon by the council.  Sounds fair to me or are people scared of discovering how strong feeling is either way ?
