Loz
From the RSPCA site:If an injured animal is found, please contact the RSPCA 24-hour cruelty and advice line 0300 1234 999 and be ready to provide details of the animal and its precise location. Where possible and safe to do so, confine the animal and/or stay with it, keeping it quiet, still and warm. Do NOT attempt to feed or give water to any injured animal. The Society relies entirely on voluntary donations, so please understand that its resources are far more limited than the other emergency services. The Society will always do its best to help an animal in need.See also http://www.rspca.org.uk/allaboutanimals/wildlife/injuredanimals/-/article/WLD_InjuredAnimals Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16331-owl-fallen-off-roof/#findComment-420539 Share on other sites
aspidistra
Crikey, can this be a young 'un? Loz's advice seems spot on, given that this is out of hours (or I might have suggested London Wildlife Trust, who are in the area). Goodliz
Panic over - a happy ending. it was just stunned and has now flown away. Well done to the school boy from Kingsdale who knocked on the door to tell us it had fallen from the roof. A cat or crow could have easily got it whilst it was lying htere. We put it in a recycling box and released it in our garden. It was so beautiful - wish i'd got a pic.:)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16331-owl-fallen-off-roof/#findComment-420547 Share on other sites
Vik
Wow I've never seen an owl in the wild, glad it was a happy ending and very well done to the schoolboy who cared enough to alert you to it! aspidistra
Aw, Goodliz, what a brill story with a happy ending. :)Yes, if you'd got a pic in the recycling box, you could have sold that to the SLP as 'amazing things people do with their recycling boxes'! Dorothy
How amazing. I have only seen one owl in my whole life, and that was at night, in the heart of the countryside. So glad it was ok. Loz
This reminds me of 'Blanche', from Captain Beaky...A baby owl, whose name was BlanchePerched bravely on a narrow branchAnd wondered whether she should tryTo jump up and attempt to fly...She bravely counted up to tenAnd then, she counted ten againShe jumped! She found she couldn't flyAnd lay there, looking at the sky"It's lucky that that branch", said she"was on the ground, and not the tree."Then off she ran and flapped her wingsAnd said "These are most awkward things"For though I skip and jump quite high"I'm still no nearer to the sky..."And falling down, she gave a howlAnd wished she'd never been an owl.And finally her mother found herAnd put a great big wing around herAnd said "Dear Blanche, don't be upset! You haven't grown your feathers yet." Sue
Loz and Goodliz, aaaahhhhhh, toptotty I'm jealous (except, do you hear awful screeches in the night as they carry off/eat small creatures alive? That was the downside of living near owls ...... ) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16331-owl-fallen-off-roof/#findComment-420723 Share on other sites
