Lacon Road was closed with police tape at 10pm tonight, Saturday, and at least three patrol cars were present. An officer told me residents of a house had heard shots - and two 'casings' had been found, presumably from handgun bullets. Dogs were searching for more at the time.

No-one hurt. But did anyone see or hear anything that could be connected? A mystery, and not what you want on your way to the shop...

I was in my back garden which backs onto Lacon rd , and heard a motor bike scream down the road and thought it had back fired twice ! Which had set off car alarms !!!! I thought this happened around 7.30 just before I went back inside. I didn't even think about it until I saw the road was closed when I went to the shop half an hour ago...
Lordy, I thought I was going mad last night! I was in the kitchen and looked up because I heard one bike go past very fast, and then I saw at least one more hare by with the rider's hand outstretched and several bangs. My first instinct was that it was a shooting but it happened so fast and I saw no detail. My boyfriend and I concluded it must have been the bike backfiring as it wasn't hugely loud... Sounded a bit like firecrackers.

this really takes the piss, what is this, Compton?!

frequency of knife and firearm incidents are really on the increase, maybe not in absolute terms but no spilling over into areas that are regarded as less 'front line'.

lets hope they can crack down sharpish.

glad no one was hurt at least, this time.

    • @alice I suggest you reserve judgement until you've experienced it yourself.
    • Yes, I've never bought a  phone that was locked to a specific network. So as far as I know,I can just stick any SIM card in my old mobile. I think it still works, but there must have been some reason why I bought a new one. I think I wanted something with more storage capacity. I hardly ever make actual phone calls, I usually use WhatsApp or texts or emails, but clearly if my main phone is stolen I would need to make various phone calls ASAP. I was just going to get a cheap card from Argos, so I'm not sure anybody there would know! The actual mobile I use is on a SIM only contract with iD, so maybe I should just ask them. I don't care about the number as it's only for occasional use. I've had my main mobile number ever since I've had a mobile, so around 25 years, and I do care about that number as it's very easy to remember,  so I've moved it around whenever I've changed providers  Oh, really? I thought there were just two sizes and if you needed the smaller one you just took off the surrounding bit? Surely mobiles take a SIM card for any network, otherwise you could never change network without changing your phone? How long have you had that SIM card in the phone? If I  have to make phone calls using the back up phone, the person I was calling wouldn't know who it was! They might think it was spam! I'd have to tell them in advance that I was going to call them 🤣
    • No, the behaviour exhibited on the Rye, and now maybe neighbouring roads, goes far beyond 'age old silly behaviour'. It is intimidation.
    • Thanks, I will look at OKR too
