WTF is that all about? I read a thread about a local school in the ED section and the White Middle Class is referred to on numerous occasions. Who are these people? Is it something that's engraved on your arse when you are born? Is it similar to the Indian caste system? Does Middle mean 'average'. Not great but not bad either.

Do I need to know which one I belong to? How many are there? Is it to do with how you think or how wealthy you are? If so, what do you need to think to be in any particular class and how much does it cost? I've lived here for a good deal of my life but I have never classified myself as any particular class. Is that something others would do for me?

I enjoy living here but this 'system' makes me wonder how a nation of sane people feel the need to have it. Much the same as my thoughts on the royal family. Would grown ups not grow out of this sort of stuff? Which bit is real please?

In my experience the above are the ones who get "stuff" organised, run committees, count the pennies after the school fete. They get their kids to school on-time, are generally polite & "attitude light"

The above & a whole lot more.

Nette(tu)

My wife says that she is proud of her working class heritage.

I say that the class system is a now defunct way of classifying people in an industrial economy that no longer exists and that its only relevance today is in a historical context.

My wife says that?s exactly the sort of middle class shit she?d expect from me.

Yup, this forum will generally takes a position that is left of left of centre and reflect modish guardianista opinion rather than the more traditional, centrist and sensible views of the country at large.

Having digested your post, I would say that you are - without doubt - in a class of your own. Take that how you like!

??????? Yep, definitely in a class of your own.

Great list for a main course, but perhaps Hotel Calfornia for starters and Welcome to the Machine for pudding.

That should keep you full for a while...

'Marxist Communism is a classless society'

I think there's certainly a belief that this would be the end result, but it seems to me that most of the philosophy is about the act of revolution itself, and the subsequent impoverishment and destruction of the bourgeoisie.

Hence I don't feel it's fair to present it as an 'equal' society.

    • It was indeed in the vicinity of DKH. I live on the ED estate and I could tell it must be close by because of the noise. When I left my house this morning I found the culprits litter still in the middle of the st. It looked like they had lit a whole box on fire in the middle of the road. My cat jumped out of her skin. I’ll try and report it on Southwark website same as I have had to with other illegal use this week. Any other ideas for what we can do with the photos? Maybe one of the Southwark councillors. It’s outrageous and dangerous behaviour.
    • Had another great meal there…. those that haven’t tried it, give it a go.. have a special lunch menu as well so you can get a flavour of the food.
    • If you "cotton on" and read the council announcement, it clearly states "The library will be closed from 17 November until late June or early July 2026."  https://www.southwark.gov.uk/2025/dulwich-library-closing-refurbishment
    • I’ve been seeing Lisa at goose green clinic for energy work for a year now.  Lisa is kind, caring and hugely supportive. She is wonderfully masterful and trained as a reiki master for 20 plus years. Alongside other energy work.  My time spent with her is like therapy. An emotional safe space for deep conversations and reflection followed by relaxing and energising healing work.  each experience I’ve had has been different, the end result remains the same. Feel lighter, almost euphoric and almost float home. Definitely an experience not to be missed.  https://www.goosegreenclinic.net/therapies/healing-energy-work/
