Hello ED hive mind. I am Secret Santa to someone who would like "something useful", and I was trying to think of something really useful for about ?10 or under. So, I'm wondering, what's the most useful thing you own in that price range?

Maybe something you are surprised to find yourself using every day, something unassuming, etc etc? Thanks in advance!

I'm a cyclist, I often employ such nasal clearing methods.

It's wonderfully empowering in a weird way and eco friendly.

And suitably disgusting.

As for useful things, I've a flat credit card holder with slots on each side, made of leather. Very very handy.

I love Xmas and especially the buildup. Works secret Santa's can fark right aff. Like I need those little fishes that curl up to tell me my future...or a wooden puzzle. Or tie with rudolph the red nosed reindeer that plays when you press a button..the list of tat goes on and on. .

OP not a works secret Santa. ..but I had to get it aff ma chest..#buildup17

Thank goodness I've never had to do Secret Santa with colleagues. This is amongst friends, so should hopefully avoid getting a load of plastic tat. For a tenner I've gotten her the enormous Almost Everything There is to Know (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Almost-Everything-There-Timothy-Hunkin/dp/0600570878) and a handy multitool, so if all you were getting were fortune telling fish (6 for ?1.65) HMB you were very short changed.

This thread has also reminded me to buy a steamer, so thanks!

Now I'm absolutely livid. I got Clive from accounts a plastic beer tumbler which attaches to a hat and has a straw. And I get 1.65 fishes. Next year...

I'M OOT.

    • Is Dell Autos closing down completely or just moving? For whatever it's worth, for MOTs I've had good recent experience with The Test Centre in Deptford. They only do MOTs so they don't have any particular incentive to fail you and they usually have same day appointments. Open 7 days a week and late. https://www.thetestcentre.co.uk/our-test-centres/deptford-branch/ Obviously you would still need a "normal" garage to do servicing and repairs etc.
    • So what is the issue? You want compensation for the loss of value, or you want to expedite the matter?
    • No. What happened? I actually thought, considering it was what we used to call Guy Fawkes Day last night, the loud noises from  fireworks ended remarkably early. About 9pm? Maybe I just fell asleep and didn't hear any later ones. Do people actually burn Guys any more? Apart from at places like Lewes, where I believe they still have Bonfire Societies and burn effigies of various political figures etc.
    • The accompaniment to our "Christmas Pudding" aka Nothing-Whatever-Like-A- Christmas-Pudding last year  at The Cherry Tree was "brandy butter ice-cream." If it had ever been near any brandy, the brandy must have been waved in its direction from a very great distance. Same with butter. The ice cream tasted like bog standard "vanilla" from a catering tub. At least it did bear some resemblance to ice cream. Whereas the "Christmas Pudding" bore no resemblance whatever to any Christmas Pudding I have ever seen or tasted in my many  decades of seeing and tasting Christmas Puddings. Oh, and Cinzano Bianco. Bleurgh. My sister used to drink that. 🤢
