Magnolia - great ensemble film which leaves you emotionally exhausted at the complexity of life and yet manages to capture the wonderful notion of serendipity in a shower of frogs! (Does that sentence make sense only to me?)

Good call on Beautiful Girls Sean - that gorgeous exchange on the ice rink - And I'll be Winnie The Pooh

to your Christopher Robin." Garden State, also starring Natalie Portman also managed to get me.

But it is theatre that usually gets me - most things by Owen McCafferty - particularly Scenes from a Big Picture; Conor McPherson's Port Authority... Laura Wade's Colder Than Here... wonderful quiet plays. And books - Augusten Burrough's Dry had tears running down my face, as did Jonathan Saffran Foer's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

And sadly... On Golden Pond works every time too!

Good call! One of the saddest things about the whole sad affair!

    • Those three are all good calls, if you want classic 'Chinese' 148 is best of the bunch. Good value too. Last time we went we had set dinner and were so full after the starters we took pretty much everything else home and had it the following night (ok i confess, some for breakfast).
    • The whole point of a family meal is for us to celebrate the families birthdays and we have traditionally paid. Both daughters only work part time and have mortgages etc.  The food was good at the Vietnamese [lace but was spoilt by the overcharging of beverages. The 2 veggies usually share each other's food!  £30 per head is way too much especially given the children do not eat much. When you do a booking at £x per head that usually covers all adults and children and only toddlers sharing parents food go 'free'
    • Anything could have happened.  There may  have been a medical or family  emergency for all you know. In my experience Tommy Rooney has been an excellent communicator, and your description of him doesn't sound like him at all.
