Banana 'ice cream' - how did I not know about this?

I can't believe I have been a mum for five years and only now discovered that if you put ripe bananas in freezer till frozen then liquidise them with fromage frais or greek yoghurt you get the most delicious and healthy 'ice cream' in minutes. Really yummy - though does not stay in ice cream consistency for very long.

Not to mention that you could add custard or cream and dulce de leche or caramel sauce for a proper naughty option.

Ooh, did not know this either. Now I know what to do with the slightly overripe bananas sitting in my fruit bowl! Baby E loves ice cream too - result :)

Another nice thing is to just blend them with cold milk. Nicer than any milkshake, and healthy too.

We often make smoothies out of over-ripe bananas - whizz with some orange juice and any available other fruit - frozen blackberries particularly good.

I just peel them, wrap in clingfilm & shove in freezer. Perfect banana ice cream lollies for kids and adults of all ages!

Same applies if you buy frozen berries and whizz them up with yoghurt and a bit of honey (and mint if you dare be so adventurous)

We live off the stuff :)

Re-overripe bananas: brew some coffee, let it cool, and whisk together with milk and bananas for a coffee/banana smoothie, yum. You can add some options cocoa powder for a sweeter drink or some rum flavour for an exotic drink or add some vanilla sugar or... must stop & search for bananas ;-)

Not as healthly as the above but make a great treat, delicious esp if served straight from the oven or warmed up in microwave. I've cut the amount of caster sugar by 50% and added dried mixed fruits to add some natural sweetness instead.

No nifty skills needed but frozen grapes are heavenly - please try them ladies ! Like mini sweet ice lollies but without the guilt and processed sugar !
