Turning right from East Dulwich Road onto Forest Hill Rd

Recommended Posts

This junction is a madness. Why oh why do we not have a right filter, rather than asking everyone to commit the kamikaze manouvers needed to turn right?

If enough people feel the same, (which they must do?) maybe we could raise a petition and get them to spend our council tax on something useful for once?

Bruce

I agree Bruce, it's pretty hazardous.

For a while there used to be a car ambulance parked up on the corner of the Rye - I wasn't sure whether it was there as a deterrent or because there are regular accidents on the junction or both.

There's no right filter to turn South on to Peckham Rye (which turns in to Forest Hill Road by the Herne Tavern/Dunstans Road as far as I know) so you often find people at the front of the queue turning right in front of oncoming traffic just as the lights turn green.

I'd be more than happy to put my name on the petition.

I'd also like to petition for better speed restriction on Peckham Rye, especially around the juntion with Dunstans Road. People drive like complete maniacs. I wonder how many of them are parents.

Also, why is there no barrier or fence at the bottom of the downhill path coming out of Peckham Rye Park on to Peckham Rye Park opposite the Herne Tavern? It's madness - the amount of children who go hurtling down the path on foot or on bikes and there's nothing to stop them going straight on to the busy road which people drive way too fast on.

Also see my (very long) post in the forum "Lordship Lane Gossip" regarding attending Community Council meetings. This is where all this planning stuff gets decided.

Sadly there was a fatal accident at this junction yesterday evening.

According to this story in thisislondon.co.uk

A 12-year-old girl was knocked down and killed by a bus on a busy street in front of horrified onlookers. Blessing Olayiwola, who was struck by the single decker, died instantly.

The schoolgirl was hit by the Number 12 bus on Peckham Rye, at the junction with East Dulwich Road, just after 7pm yesterday.

    • I'd try the Dulwich Village or "North Dulwich Triangle" forums for more local knowledge but I don't think those areas compare to Abeville Road at all. It will be quite a different lifestyle.
    • Yes, Dulwich Village commands a premium and justifiably so given access to the City via London Bridge plus the top rate schools within walking distance.  The bus services are really good also - 37, 42 and P4. The P4 is useful for connecting to the Victoria line at Brixton. It's worthwhile waiting for the right property. I know of one which will be coming on the market in a few weeks - 4 bedrooms and south facing garden circa £2.5m.
    • This is an utterly foolish and alarmist statement, completely at odds with reality.
    • I realise this is highly unlikely, but if anyone has a colour laser printer in very good working order, I'd be delighted to take it off your hands!
