Haha yep it was bacon sandwiches that made my younger brother fall off the veggie wagon (after being brainwashed by me when I used to be veggie. He had also agreed to save all his pocket money to contribute towards a horse that I wanted.) Those were the days.

Do you mean sweetbreads? (thymus or pancreas usually veal or lamb) If they're not soaked for long enough and blanched properly the flavour will suffer. I like my offal mixed like in a haggis or in faggots which I ate a lot growing up in the Midlands.

Faggots, gravy and mushy peas in a batch with pepper and vinegar! slurrrp.

Good for you strafer.

I dont currently have the money at the moment to always buy from pretty's or smbs, although wa sin there today and their tomatoes are super, great taste!

i recently read a book 'we want real food' which really spurred me on to buy organic and local. Hopefully ill have the money soon and then yes you'll see me at the grocers all the time!

although a vegan who is against all animal products, I am please in dulwich we have good butchers / moxons for fish, so i would encourage people who do it meat to source it from there.

No...

I get Pork & Beef direct from the farmer/smallholder. Some from Smithfield market or the Butcher. Some from the shoot/gamekeeper during the season.

NETTE:)

Mick mac - I think this thread can survive another diversion - weve had ponces, glacier cherries, picture of mohitoes, the game shooting season, rearing pork pies and boiling pigs heads!

i tried the dulwich farmers market today - super!

Thomas - don't forget potential tomato theft :) (btw, can you not grow some in pots or a window box or share an allotment or something?)

Some supermarkets do sell good British (from East Anglia) tomatoes at a fairly reasonable price. Just don't put them anywhere near the fridge when you get home. I think its Morrisons that do these so you don't have to splash out at some of the pricier delis.

Ha I can hereby clarify I am not a tomato thief and I have never (and never will) use forced rhubard.

Yes I should be growing some tomatoes just haven't had the time - something for the future!

Toms from the market were actually cheaper than local tescos.

Tom

I'm more of a foodie than an animal rights activist, but in this case I support Tom's campaign and was one of the people who asked Beauberry House to take foie gras off the menu. It is good to see that local restaurants take customer feedback seriously - everyone should have the right (and initiative!) to speak up for what they want & do not want to see on local menus.

There are plenty of food choices - veggie & meat alike - without having to resort to force-feeding animals to make a "luxury" item.

So what about all the people that do wish to eat Foie Gras at Beauberry House? Presumably we'll have to petition them to bring it back?

And then you'll do the opposite and repeat ad nauseam.

If you don't like foie grad then don't bloody eat it but don't prevent others from having the choice to order if they so wish.

Irritating vegan campaigners, I care less know for your meddling politics than I ever did before.

    • Copleston centre hire for adult parties
    • Most churches rent out halls for children's' parties but rarely adult parties, Christ Church only does afternoon parties,   The East Dulwich Community centre hires out halls to 9 pm only and all music needs to be on a sound restrictor as is in a residential area. St Johns with St Clements have a small hall but not sure if they allow adult parties. Nunhead Green has a newish community centre with a couple of different size halls. Most places seem to charge around £40 ph  with a deposit of £100/200 (returned if no damage or excess cleaning needed.
    • Hello, Recently there have been various comments made on the forum which have resulted in heated discussions being had. I for one, hold up my hand and wanted to personally thank whoever is keeping the forum going.. remember when it was likely to close. We are all adults and should known when it is right to continue or just ignore or if really feel it necessary comment via pm. I have had a long relationship with the forum and have bought, sold, offered advice and in deed made friends on the forum over the years. It is a public forum after all and everyone is entitled to express their opinion and is also free. I am not as tech minded as most but with the season of good will approaching and-knowing in this economic climate how many people are  struggling, I  thought it would be a lovely idea, to perhaps set up a just giving page to raise funds for a local charity who might appreciate a contribution towards their Christmas festivities… On a practical side, might just be to complicated to administer as I am sure all have charities that we support so my other thought was not me, as I am useless but to set up a just giving page and whatever monies are raised, perhaps contribute to the festivities that use to be run by local shops or whatever.. Maybe even use a local church hall and just make it special for perhaps folk that find it difficult to access events or no access for say wheel chair users.. guess really, one is looking for guidance from the church and of course volunteers. Shoot me down if you must or feel the need but this is my view and no, sadly I won’t be around in the months before Christmas but can help remotely.
