Hi Internet

I am currently new to the area and am putting together a business plan for opening a tattoo shop, along lordship lane or along by the actress pub or near abouts.

How do you, as a community, feel about this? Do you feel as an up and coming town, this would be well received? Given the fashion and style of the town and the surrounding area.

Please any feedback would be very much appreciated, good or bad and be as harsh as you like.

Thanks, Pete

Yeah good luck Pete, it would make a nice change and add some colour to the area (forgive the unintentional pun). East Dulwich isnt the most obvious place to set up shop to be honest but maybe the locals are more adventurous than we're giving them credit for. I don't know if there are many tattooists in the surrounding areas so you might be able to attract business from Peckham, Herne Hill, Forest Hill etc if you market it properly. I think people are often put off of tattoo parlours because they can look quite intimidating so it would help if you made yours look approachable. Blacked out windows tend to deter the curious!

Are you planning to have a website? Doesnt have to be fancy or expensive but any kind of online presence helps you reach out to other areas, show off your work and give people an idea of what they should expect to pay.

I'm not a website designer touting for business, by the way!

Hi PhilPhilPhil

Yes a website is almost certainly in the pipeline. I can design websites myself using Dreamweaver and just notepad and HTML. I dont know every detail but I can do the basics. But thank you, you're right and a website would be extremly beneficial.

Thank you

Pete

I know you're only kidding, but... in Islingon there's a tattooist just down the road from Waitrose.

    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
    • Well according to a newspaper article, Gail’s is opening 10 shops in London,,, yup Dulwich is named 10/5 I seem to recall with others in London opening at 7 am…!, Guess that is to capture workers coming off all night shift. Offering free mince pies until they run out.. So very sad to hear about Romeo Jones… been a customer since the opening, any idea where Patrick has gone or details… please pm me.    What is going to be in its place…. Will be around in Jan…umm village is changing….
    • interesting the police said "the car was in demand at the moment" what make/model is that?
    • Just be careful to know exactly what they cover and the limits. i use Many Pets and Medivet, as I think one of the vets is exceptionally good. Some of the NHV are, but I’ve had a couple I’ve not liked at all.  I need consistency and to feel that they actually care more about the animals than the money.
