The thing about tattooed skin looking wrinkly when you are 60+ is a bit inane in my opinion.

If you get a tattoo in your 20's or 30's, you get decades of it looking good (if you are someone who likes the look of tattoos) and when you get to 60, how much would you actually care that it had got a bit saggy?

It would just match the rest of your aging body. Big deal.

The question wasn't whether it was a good business idea or not. It was how do we feel about one opening on Lordship Lane, Norcross Rd etc.

Forget all this nonsense of artistic and creative types, getting inked and tatted. Tattoo parlors are tacky, often found in areas with payday loans shops.

to think only a couple of years ago there was a gun shop on Lordship Lane and yet some people are getting antsy about the idea of a tattoo place? Weird

I'd like the old Dream Machine record shop under ED Cafe to merge with what was the video shop and be one big tattoo/record shop/hangout place. A slice of Haight Ashbury in South London - marvellous

If they can get rid of the smell of those awful bath-salt products flogged out of there during the last incarnation.

It would be like an old Virgin record shop in the pre-megastore era where you could waste hours minutes listening to Radio Gnome and wondering whether Gong and Here and Now were esoteric geniuses or hippy nitwits.

I think this would be a very cool idea, the nearest in the area is in Nunhead, i know a lot of people that go to him, i had my first tat done there and lets just say i havent been back! Overpriced and not very friendly!

I then went to Sydenham, found a fantastic guy who then moved to the seaside! Argh!!!!!

So for me i would be your 1st customer, esp if you do freehand!

What bit of Dulwich was you looking at??? The old chip shop near the police station has been empty for years!!!

Good Luck and keep us all updated on your new adventure!

Good question. Perhaps somebody who believes that their tastes or social values are inherently superior to others. Or somebody who believes that businesses in their area should only cater to a certain market.

Examples on this thread might include posts such as "this will scupper our chances of a Waitrose", "it would be better suited to Peckham", and "I don't like tattoos therefore other people shouldn't get them".

To echo your thoughts on a previous post, Frankito - not my cup of tea, but each to their own. I admire people who start their own business, and at least it would be something different, instead of another cafe, gift shop, etc.

Please please do not make your decor like the above! Its scary look and dark!

Lets not forget this should be a sterile environment! Clean cut lines, lots of white, still can be trendy without the heavy feeling to it.

Lets not forget many people can be intimidated by these kind of dark shops, i would much prefer for tat number 6 to go somewhere clean, bright and airy!

Im really happy to see alot of views and replies over the weekend. I will be going through all the responses slowly today and answering any questions or concerns you have brought up.

From what i've seen there's some very positive views and thanks everyone for your support and feedback, good or bad, its all very helpful.

I'll stay on the forums and perhaps post a few more questions about the area if you dont mind me sticking around.

Thank you

Pete

How old and geriatric do some of you sound? [cough, cough....silver fox etc] A good few of you bah-humbug types should take care not to trip over your zimmer frames on your stairway to mediocrity. Why not embrace difference for a change, don't shove it away in Peckham while East Dulwichites become carbon copies of each other. It would be my humble suggestion that you very quickly rubber stamp this fantastic idea, head down to Pedro's tattoo shop, get inked, get laid, and you never know, it may help you to ease the hell up. ughhhhh I need a drink.

Oh.My.God.

Over the years I've seen some pretty snobbish, nimbyish and frankly offensive views posted here, but Alan Medic and Silverfox have just surpassed them all.

Just because YOU don't like something doesn't mean OTHER PEOPLE have to agree with you. I'm no fan of body ink or piercing - and would never have it done - but what others do is their own deal. My wife has tattoos - should I not find her attractive because of it? And why shouldn't they be catered for round here? "Associated with payday loans"? Get a life. That's a horrible thing to say - and if you saw the salary levels of some inked people I know you'd realise what an idiot you are.

I guess by your logic that NO business that you personally don't approve of should be allowed here? Who made you overlords of ED?

    • So when will we find out? Is it going to be a big reveal on some specified day? If not, why can't you tell us now?! (I'm presuming you mean the new boss of Franklins. It would be too much to hope for that the Palmerston had a miraculous return to one of its better past incarnations. Never mind the food, they could bring back the lovely quirky painted column things of over twenty (?) years ago, and remove the hideous "art" that has sadly been installed. I feel really sorry for the staff, because it can't be just my partner and I who rarely go there any more. I suppose the only hope is that it does so badly that it changes hands again and that the new hands have better taste. Sorry, all off topic.)
    • I would hope that is extremely unlikely. If people accidentally vote for someone, that's their own fault, isn't it?
    • Bumpkin I’d say feed and clean.    The RSPB say garden birds are low risk for avian flu but take precautions and clean feeders and birdbaths regularly.    Birds will be starting to nest soon and food you put out can at least feed the parents so they can feed live food to the young who can’t take seed yet.    It’s reccomended to wear gloves and clean feeders/birdbaths with mild disinfectant weekly.
