Liverpool were fortunate with the penalty, but played well, and deserved something from it.

I've slagged off Bellamy in the past, not for his football, but for his actions off the pitch. Last night though he was a hero on the pitch, with a great goal to take us through.

I know the league cup isn't exactly the Champions League, but it's a trip to Wembley, and any of the top 5 teams would have set out to win it once they were in the semis.

Problem for Palace all season has been we can't score enough goals, Freedman doing a good job though after a year in charge, making us difficult to beat and then building from there. Palace v Liverpool would have been a perfect final, happy memories of Villa Park.

El Clasico - Real Madrid very unlucky, ref seemed to give everything to Barcelona, disallowed goal, dodgy sending off, added nowhere near enough extra time and then blew before time was up.

REf should have sent off Diara for Real, not sure how he and Pepe didn't get their marching orders. Great game though and 4 great goals especially the Alves and Benzema ones.

I see the Hammers are after Rangers centre forward. I suspect they will be forced to sell by their bank even if it's not as much as they think he is worth. I gather their situation is pretty dire which should make it all the easier for Celtic to win the league.

If Rangers lose Jelovic they will be significantly weakened, I can't see then being able to get someone in as good as him at short notice. Celtic seem determined to keep their best players at least to the end of the season.

What a marvelous weekend of football ahead of us we have with a couple of tasty confrontations ahead of us. They'll be plenty to talk about I'm sure. Will Evra play against the Pool? I'm damned sure Terry will play against QPR. Anyway, I'll hold my hand hands up and admit that Tottenham were bloody awful tonight even though we won with Van De Vaart's only contribution of the night. Goalie should have save it as well. Think the bounce done him.

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
