Performance of the season so far is the mighty toon.Cl may be a bit too much to hope for , but A european place looks nearly nailed on.

Thanks for the ?35M for man mountain Carroll dear scousers. It would be nice to see if Everton could nick a decent place and maybe Europe next season - a bit of a testament to the work Moyes has put in with his lot & paucity of funds. And the Luis Enrique money came in handy as well.

The Tots have have a good season but I get the feeling that Harrys good luck came to an end with his unexpected escape from the long arm of the law.Now he can realise the ultimate managers dream - taking a hapless England to another futile international finals so we can we watch the inevitable implosion and toys being hoyed out of the pram by its overhyped, egotistical turd smeared hard core of regulars.

It could be a rather enjoyable summer.

That's far too technical RD. Can I ask you to remain in the technical area if you are going to keep this up?

Well we can't all be living, breathing saints, as you clearly are. We should aspire to be as righteous as you.

Indeed - carrying a whole team like that is an amazing acheivement - gooners must be praying he signs a new contract in the three days between their last game and RVP reporting for Holland. Now THAT's what you call squeaky bum time...

Same could be said of Rooney for Man u. We've lost big players before, NO player is bigger than ANY club, despite what they or their agents think.

Interesting weekend (apart from the Arsenal v Chelsea snoozefest)

I think Fergie might look back at those scenes after the 4-2 goal with some horror. Waving at the fans etc ? not like him to count his chickens

I still can?t decide who I would rather win (usual caveats about premier league being a distasteful monied spectactle aside)

Someone new would be good. And I kind of like Mancini. But something about the way they conduct their business really bothers me. And they nick Arsenal players

Man Utd ? should be my ?anyone but? team but genuine respect for Fergies achievements over the years

Either way I?m glad it?s going to the wire

If by nick you mean pay inflated fees to allow Arsenal to carry on with their selling model you're right.

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
    • You've got a point.  Thinking Leyland and Screwfix too but this felt different.
