Joey Barton on News Night anyone?

He spoke well on the appointment of Roy Hodgson

Oh and good luck to Roy. Hopefully he can get shot of JT in the process of a shake up. Never has a player been more toxic to a team than that c-nut

I personally never wanted Harry R either, to bent and tainted by his past 'arrangements'

Great win for Martin Jol's Fulham and marking their first ever win at Anfield. Bring back Rafa? Anyone?

Good result for Fulham, but it makes no difference for Liverpool, and their eyes are definitely set on Saturday.

Interesting point about Rafa though. Should Kenny not have a better season next time, I think the owners will run out of patience, and I suspect Rafa is the one man on the planet that the match going fans would accept in the place of their King.

Personally, I think Dalglish has at least made the team more interesting to watch. Rafa did get results, but his cautious tactics made for boring games at times. I want to see Kenny turn things round and do well next season. If that doesn't happen and he is sacked, I personally would rather not see Rafa back, but I know my opinion would not be popular with a lot (probably a majority) of fans.

Because of his status with the fans, Dalglish was always going to be given more time than Hodgson, regardless of whether his record is better or worse. What comes across in Otta's earlier post is how much sway the fans have, or would like to think they have, in who gets to manage their club. If Dalglish does go, FSG need to appoint their own man, not who is most popular with the fans.

Although I don't agree with the FA's decision to appoint Hodgson, at least they have gone for their own man. I'm afraid Hodgson's on a hiding to nothing with the press because they wanted Harry, whereas most fans will still get behind Hodgson and the team. The Sun's headline is a taste of what's to come if England don't perform, I bet they already have their 'turnip' jokes lined up for the Euro's...

If Dalglish does go, FSG need to appoint their own man, not who is most popular with the fans.

I agree.

I think the thing is that Hicks & Gillet were so toxic for the club. Rafa had won the champs league (with Houllier's squad, but there you go), so was an instant hero. He was quite openly critical of the very unpopular owners lack of financial backing (in his opinion), so the fans loved him even more. When he went, H&G probably should have put Kenny in charge, because he would have taken it on (as he genuinely loves the club), and he is the only man the fans would have accepted after Rafa.

Instead, they brought in poor Roy, off the back of an impressive season with Fulham, but he was just seen as the owner's pet, and the fans were never going to take to him. Unfortunately, things like Joe Cole's transfer didn't work out, and results on the pitch didn't go to plan. Fans felt that he was too apologetic, and didn't slag off their big rivals enough, and wasn't a "Liverpool Manager". You could argue that he was realistic in what he said, and that the fans don't want to hear realistic.

I think the new owners realised that the fans viewed Roy as not good enough for them, and so they got rid of him as a way to instantly get the fans on side. They installed a club legend, and they have been generous with cash for players. How long that will last though, will depend on whether there can be a big improvement. Lets not forget, they could end the season with 2 cups, but, if they do, it will just be painting over the lack of quality depth in the squad over the season.

Apparently though, these owners do have a ruthless streak, so I suspect if their patience runs out, they won't let sentimentality get in their way...

RE: The Sun, no big surprise, there are enough idiots in the country who buy that rag, so they'll keep on printing the same shite.

RH's appointment might bring up some interesting dynamics with some of those who may not have seen eye to eye with him during his tenure at Liverpool.

No great losses in my book.

If he's any balls it's goodbye JT too. Truly my heart weeps..ooh a shiny penny.

I'm feeling more positive about this manager than any I have for a good long while.

In fact it's been a horrible time since, well, since Venables left. Admittedly I was optimistic when Keegan took over, a misplaced optimism that pretty much lasted until he announced his first squad. Oh, tired old dinosaurs and regressive tactics then, did we learn nothing from Hoddles reign?! And things only got worse.

That we're ranked so highly under Capello is laughable and a facet of the weird FIFA weighting of our trouble free qualifications against the likes of Lilliput, Legoland and Hobbitonania. Woo!!!

As I've said before he's got a good track record of getting small teams to punch above their weight. If he can get the mentality in to the team (and selection is crucial here) that we are no longer natural heirs to the biggest stage and have to damn well work for it then we could go all the way, or at least maybe further than a meek exit after the group stage.

But not in this tournament.

Eldest daughter got student loan and after 20 years managed to pay it off, Youngest daughter still paying hers 18 years later. Granddaughter - still paying after 6 years. Grandson decided against FE and secured an apprentenship. I am glad that I am an old codger and not young anymore !

    • It is not only Southwark - our grandson, partner and 7 year old had a one bed council flat for years in Harlow Essex and all the properties offered were in poor condition. They eventually took a property as if they refused another one they would drop to the bottom of the Housing List. It was damp and in need of a level of renovation. Having lived in these conditions for a while they were offered better council accommodation recently, but further away from child's school. They had to pay 2 lots of rent for a few weeks as council had to undertake work in the new premises before they could move in,
    • Just had an interior decorating job done by Andy. The final outcome looks lovely and he did some remedial work at the same time to fill in gaps in the ceiling (due to previous electrical work) and to remediate any similar areas to ensure a polished overall look. Would highly recommend him for any similar job, he quoted a very reasonable price for the job as well. Thanks Andy!
