Charlie Adam, the guy that high on crippled Bale, should feel right at home with the Stoke rabble and their odious manager. Doubtless when he next clatters or injures someone Pullis will say "he's not that sort of player, just an honest pro" for honest player read average agricultural clod.

I've been surprised no team has snapped him up on some sort of pay as you play deal.

He's obviously a sicknote who will spend a lot of the season on the injury list, but equally, he is proven quality, and surely could do a job for an Everton or a Villa...

He's probably over pricing himself, even on a pay as you play basis. Man United got very little from him. He should drop down a division.

He's a player I genuinely feel sorry for. Goal against Argentina and a double in the cup final were probably career highlights in a career that promised so much more.

Unless I am reading it wrong, that says ?15m spent on players in 2011/12??

@MicMac - thanks, we can only beat what's in front of us. Unless it is Peterhead or Berwick Rangers.

Owen suffers from an extraordinarily large ego. The only reason he wants a Prem team is so he can warm the bench and rake in the cash, while denying a younger player a chance to develop and progress.

Don't you just love transfer deadline day? Plenty of business being done. Sad to see Rafa go back to Hamburg but as good as he was he did lack pace. My favourite memory of him was scoring against Le Arse and blowing kisses to their fans followed by nutmegging Jack Wiltshire not once but twice. Good to see Berbatov get a move to Fulham. If he gets plenty of time on the pitch he'll score goals. As for Michael Owen, I think he's just happy to warm his well paid arse on a bench these days. Sad because I'm sure if he's fit he could do a good job for someone.

In my case I got abuse for not asking first before taking the photo. As my wife proved with Michael Owen, if you do ask they say no. Best to take the photo and if they get antsy, just run away.

Michael Owen would not catch anyone these days.

That's 'market value' which doesn't make any sense at all. Net transfer amounted to about ?2M.

    • The problem this year is that 5th November falls on a Wednesday. So some places will be bringing their "bonfire night" forward to Saturday 1st and some will be knocking it back to Saturday 8th and there'll probably be a few that just go with Wednesday 5th anyway. If you're doing a public display, having it on a weekend gets more crowds. Which basically means a solid week of fireworks.
    • Fireworks in this area do feel totally incessant at this time of year, almost every evening there is terrible noise. I feel great concern for wildlife, pets (I have a senior cat who hates them), as well as people who struggle with PTSD etc. Last year I even had people setting them off in front of my home. Tonight and yesterday evening have been particularly bad. Is there anything we can do as a community to prevent this? What action can we take? Surely we shouldn’t be expected to just put up with it every year for weeks on end!
    • Does anyone know what time tonight's events, the second night of the new phenomenon of Halloween Fireworks, end? These do sound too major to be anything but large- scale organised events and they are loud, very loud. So anyone, for their own reasons, that dislikes or objects to this level of noise for the next x amount of hours, really has no choice in the matter! Could those addicted to loud bangs possibly have a kind of silent disco setup with the bangs sent through headphones, so the rest of us could be spared?
    • Another recommendation for Maurice. He did a great job replacing a leaking radiator. He is polite, thoughtful and efficient. Thank you very much.
