I could always check the predictions to see if that scenario would happen, and then ask for new predictions, otherwise it's toss of a coin time I'm afraid. I've lost out on the chance of a 1999 Treble due to a coin toss, so I would feel your pain. What would you and the other 3 semi-finalists prefer?...

A man after I my own heart...I've thought of something that doesn't involve any further predictions, the player closest to the final aggregate score goes through...

That could work for a final. I definitely don't think that should be decided on a coin toss...worse than pens...any Germans amongst us?

Can you clarify how that would work? There's a CL Final at stake :)

You're thinking too hard about this Meds :)

Let's say the overall aggregate scores for the two semi's were 4-2 and 5-3 respectively.

Player A predicted aggregate scores of 3-1 and 2-2.

Player B predicted aggregate scores of 4-2 and 2-3.

Player A's aggs were -1, -1, -3 and -1 away from the actual aggs, giving a total of -6

Player B's aggs were 0, 0, -3 and 0, giving a total of -3.

The player closest to the actual aggs wins, in this case Player B.

Seems a fair way as it incorporates all 4 matches.

If both players are still equal then it's coin time...

The business end of the season and even Radio 5 is exciting.... Spuds last minute scrambling for winner after late equaliser, Wolves fans on the pitch threatening their own players after relegation then Brentford miss an injury time penalty for promotion and from the breakaway Doncaster score to get promotion....just hope Dulwich Hamlet are winning....I need a drink
a sad day for football. The Newcastles are a mess, I dont know what is happening up there, so another defeat isnt that shocking. But Today, the apologists for racism and violence won. If Goebbels had have been alive, he would have been a supporter of the current red shite team.

Congrats to Gareth Bale, only the 3rd 'double double' winner of the player's awards...the others being Ronaldo and, wait for it...

Andy Gray...Take a bow son!

GB hit a purple patch of form, just at the right time as the votes were being cast, whereas RVP's dipped. The writer's vote later and can look at the season as a whole when voting, so I think they will choose RVP, while GB will get the young player award.

Despite their manager's request to show some class, Gooner fans were anything but yesterday, booing the guard of honour for Utd. Still, we shouldn't be surprised, they boo their own players and manager afterall. I've no issue with them booing RVP when his name was announced and when the game got underway, but to boo the guard of honour, when he hadn't even stepped onto the pitch shows what a classless set of fans they have. Let's be clear, it wasn't a few idiotic morons every club has, this was large swathes of their support...20

I'd be very surprised if your view is shared by many people RD. Great goalscorer as RVP is, Bale has been the stand out player in the premiership this season surely?

You're missing my point Mick. The PFA vote isn't based on the season as a whole. I've no qualms with Bale winning the award based on the season up until the votes were cast. A worthy winner indeed. I just think the writer's might make a different choice when they cast their votes at the end of the season.

Re. Ots...RVP has more goals than Suarez, not that should decide who's had a better season or not. I think Carrick has been Utd's consistently best player, but goalscorers often take the glory.

The PFA awards often thrown up anomolies. Ryan Giggs won it after only making a dozen or so apearances, probably more out of sympathy for never having won it. In Scotland, not a single Celtic player has been nominated this year, which is laughable. Still, it all provides good 'pub debate' material...

Bale has been brilliant all season and for me it's thoroughly deserved (not that I'm biased at all). But as RD has pointed out the writers' award takes in the whole of the season. I'd still plump for Bale but wouldn't be surprised if Van Pursie won it. There is no doubt he's had a fabulous season. Suarez, although he's had a great season too, he's blotted his copy book (again) of late and that rules him out for me.
So RVP back at the Emirates and did what all ex Arsenal Players do and scored, so why not celebrate? You are now employed by the rags not Arsenal, enjoy the moment. Just a samll footnote, if Theo really thought it was OK to put on that shirt after the game, he's either a complete buffoon or doesn't understand the history between the clubs. In his case probably both.

"Suarez, although he's had a great season too, he's blotted his copy book (again) of late and that rules him out for me."

Agree, but if it was just about his football and nothing else, he'd be up there. Had Bale done one of his swan dives the week before voting, that could have swung it to RVP.

Maybe. I was watching Sunday Supplement, Sky's football journo show on Sunday morning, and one of the journos said he wouldn't be voting for Bale because of his perceived diving.

Mick, forgot to ask earlier, did you see Jimmy Nesbitt singing his heart out in the Utd end yesterday? Buy him a pint from me...

    • I would like to understand this promise by the Greens in greater detail and how it applies locally? Presumably road/pavement upkeep and renewal is as important for cyclists and pedestrians as motorists? I am not aware of plans to build new roads locally but there has been plenty of money spent on converting roads into pedestrian only areas. On the face of it this feels a slightly empty statement, when applied at local level. I'd love to know the Greens stance in hiring out parks for private use (given impact on park environment), I'd also like to understand their stance on fireworks- I will look to see if I can find anything. I don't know if a manifesto exists under the documents section of Southwark Greens, but you can only access that bit by signing in- which is disappointing. If anyone has a manifesto that reflects local priorities- could they post a link?
    • You are most likely correct in thinking that  Kinnock, Blair, Brown, Starmer et all knew it.  But they obviously thought that his skills, abilities and usefulness far outweighed the negatives. Here is a summary of the positives lifted from elsewhere:-   1. Strategic Architect: He was a primary architect of "New Labour," rebranding the party and shifting its core ideology to win the 1997 general election. 2 Master of Communication: Often called the original "spin doctor," he revolutionised how political parties manage the media. He famously created the "grid" system to coordinate government messaging. 3 Networking and Charm: Known as "Silvertongue," he possesses a peerless ability to charm and network with high-level global figures, including business leaders and heads of state. 4. Governance and Trade Expertise: Beyond strategy, he was considered a highly efficient minister, serving as European Commissioner for Trade and Secretary of State across multiple departments, including Business and Northern Ireland.  5. Reinvention: His capacity to adapt to changing political climates and rebuild relationships reflects personal resilience and strategic flexibility. With his skill and abilities, he delivered results for all his bosses. In the short time in Washington, he found a way to get on the right side of Trump - despite him  being critical of Trump in previous years. That said he is complex personality.  He can be simultaneously brilliant and arrogant, thick-skinned yet sensitive, and selfless for his party while appearing narcissistic in his personal dealings.  My OP asked if he would be accepted over the pond. It turned out he was because he got on famously with trump. He worked out the correct strategy to get on the good side of Trump and secured a better trade deal than the EU and other nations.
    • Malumbu, do you happen to know what the current figure is for "trips into town made by walking, cycling and public transport"?
    • Before voting, do you not think it's logical to evaluate each party on its policies and make a tally of the reasons "For" and "Against" voting for each party.
