Missed the last one so this one is in the diary..... thanks Muckers for the reminder on Saturday.

Will join you guys, Dom, Katie & Lady D for a couple of early swifties - Also, will let the rest of the team know too.

Good Job!

McCabe.

Curse my facial recognition software short term memory.

Set off for The Gowlett all 'a-jaunt' looking forward to continuing acquaintances begun only a few weeks ago.

Got into the bar at 8.30 and ordered one of the guest beers. Took a sip and looked confidently around the fairly busy pub. I saw a lot of people who looked like they could be some of those I met last time. In fact they ALL looked like that.

Then I looked for a pregnant bump but realised I must have missed mein hostess. I couldn't hear LM so obviously too early and no one was sporting pegs so no clues there either.

I peered into the corners hoping that when eye contact - however fleeting - occurred there would be some twinkle of recognition or a raised/questioning eyebrow. Nothing. Not a sausage.

There was nothing for it. I could either slink off home with my tail between my legs and write out "I must try harder to remember people's faces" 100 times or I could work my way around the pub asking of each group "Er, are you on the forum?"

I must try harder to remember people's faces

I must try harder to remember people's faces

I must try harder to remember people's faces

I must try harder to remember people's faces

.....

No - I did the slinking thing and return to casa maxxi... have some earlier homemade polpette and a cheeky barbaresco to cheer me up.

Enjoy the Plough, perhaps next time we shall wear hats!

ETA: P.S. - Journey not entirely wasted as I did notice on passing that the @999 salon had a notice up saying it was opening again today - my OH is delighted.

Yikes - should there be a special sign / handshake / rolled up trouser leg / nervous tick type identifier...?

I felt the same when I stormed down to the EDT to reclaim the streets on the post riot Tuesday. Couldn't quite bring myself to interrupt people with "Oh excuse me, are you perchance on the East Dulwich Forum?"

Duuuuudes - we were there!!! We were by the sofas that are opposite the pool table... I was there from 7.40!!

Next time I will describe what I'm wearing or something and post it on here.

@ maxxi - strawbs wasn't there so no bump could be used as a beacon :/

For those that were there and found us, thank you - I had a really good evening and laughed a lot!!! :D

Gosh straferjack... you gotta love the inclusivity which will really encourage new participants to come along in the future.

At any other EDF drinks I've been to, there's never been that much of a problem finding the group without any requirement for hats or identifiers. There's either been a rough idea of where the bar we'd be (e.g. upstairs at the Phoenix, in the downstairs bit at the Black Cherry) or there's been an obvious crowd of small groups standing chatting in 2-3s to approach. Last night, most of the tables were couples or big groups of 5 or 6 who looked quite tight with each other - no truly obvious candidates. After two rebuffs from the bigger groups, I decided that it wasn't worth the effort for a quick few on the way home so gave up. Even the pizzas had an hour's wait so it wasn't even worthwhile hanging around for dinner on the off-chance that someone I recognised did show up.

This is also the first drinks thread that hasn't had a blast of activity the following morning from the attendees reminiscing about a great night out... so I'm curious as to whether anyone actually found the group or if it was such a great night that everyone's still too hungover to type at 5pm the next day.

Ah hah - I think I did see you and wonder but was already en route to the door so mindset was firmly homeward bound by then. Glad that you had fun and are all still alive! Early arrivals posting a location in the bar would be v useful in future for those of us who perhaps aren't as regular at the drinks and don't recognise people.

What a bloomin shame maxxi and Applespider!

We were there alright. Had many a laugh. Thanks for arranging Jaws.

And maxxi, quite what you mean by this, I simply cannot imagine... (*looks most put out*);-).

As for you, Frankito...you stood us all up once more...(*throws hands up in air*)

@applespider - meant to be tongue in cheek, I don't mean to frighten. I have often recounted the naked fear I felt on first going to a forum drinks. But the regulars (changing as they are) ARE inclusive - but it still needs that bit of fearlessness on behalf of the newcomer.

@maxxi - hush! didn't you make the last drinks? That makes you a veteran.. you need to man up and be there for people fella!

    • Thanks all, our hope was (despite the diminishing estate) he would get on with it.  Progress is glacial, it's been two years since probate was granted, that's two cold and damp winters with no heating, and not surprisingly a pipe burst. He's blames the issues on the estate agent, who separately had a dispute with him, he had a wobbly when one of the beneficiaries spoke to the estate agent.  Separately he said it was the family's fault for letting the property get into a poor condition.  It was dated, but certainly not in poor condition. There are two five star reviews on Google, and five one star: ** WARNING** This solicitor firm has to be one of the worst I have encountered. The solicitor is prehistoric in his practices and will carry out work at his own snails pace, the fax machine he uses gets turned off at 2 pm and its near impossible to get him on the phone. STAY AWAY, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, check the solicitors ombudsman, this firm has previous bad practice recorded.   Disgusting under no circumstances use this solicitor. For over 10 years he has not carried out the terms of a Will he has not re-invested money but has retained it.  He writes letters which are pure "Flannel" excuses for doing nothing.  You have been warned   shocking experience, delayed the whole process, told other side solicitors to not contact him as he feels pressured etc. never use.   Not fit for 21st century. No website, no email address, no electronic transfer. Very slow, very little communication.   Was not a pleasant experience dealing with this firm
    • If you mean the one outside the church going towards Peckham, it still had the closed sign on it this morning, but as there are no road works there, I'm sure some of the drivers will stop there on request.  The stop outside the chippy coming from Peckham is closed as there are road works in front of it.  The 4 way traffic lights are in operation.., causing a lot of congestion.
    • We found a recommendation for Geek Electrics on a here after we wanted to have a electrical inspection of a property we are buying. From the very beginning through to the end Bob was responsive, helpful and demonstrated his knowledge. He has been an absolute pleasure to deal with. We will defiantly be using Bob again and would thoroughly recommend him! His details are... www.geekelectrics.co.uk 07453 407 226 [email protected]
