Gesundheit
Just a heads up for neighbours in the area- we were burgled last night any time between midnight and 5am. We?re in one of the terraced houses with the gardens between Whateley and silvester roads. We?ve reported it to the police. Hope it hasn?t happened to anyone else. singalto
That?s awful. Were you in the house at the time? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/191110-burglary-on-whateley-rd-last-night-7th8th-may/#findComment-1244263 Share on other sites
Gesundheit
We were indeed- such a horrible feeling. Don?t know how the dog didn?t wake us up but just relieved she didn?t go down and get hurt, and that whoever it was didn?t come upstairs.I?ve listed some of the things that were taken in the lost/found section just on the off chance something turns up. singalto
Have you checked that all your house keys are accounted for? When my neighbour was broken into, one of the things they stole was his car key. Gesundheit
We have thanks, and they?re all here. A forensic detective just came over and didn?t get anything that could identify the person but he said he was pretty sure they know who did it. Apparently there?s a guy the police have dubbed the night-crawler who hops fences and can climb drainpipes, balconies, etc and gets in via open windows and doors. He?s active around here, camberwell and Peckham. JohnL
Not this one (the nightwatcher surely) - he sounds really scaryhttps://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/police-probe-link-between-night-watcher-burglar-and-prolific-thief-the-wimbledon-prowler-a3753881.html Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/191110-burglary-on-whateley-rd-last-night-7th8th-may/#findComment-1244310 Share on other sites
Mark
Just to back up what singalto says...Friend were burgled and didn't realise that had also stolen the spare patio door keys that were sat in a draw. A month or so later after the insurance had replaced all their stolen items, they were revisited with no forced entry needed second time around. Whether they succeed a second time is contingent on any additional security you may have installed. The main reasons are two-fold in that , firstly, they have already shown they can burgle you and secondly they wait for the goods to be replaced, as new. :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/191110-burglary-on-whateley-rd-last-night-7th8th-may/#findComment-1244344 Share on other sites
flocker spotter
It is standard practice to get your locks replaced. We were missing a bundle of keys after a burglary and had a bit of a tussle with the insurers on the day of discovery but finally got them to agree for the entire external locking setup to be replaced with Banhams gear. Always worth pushing to see if they will do this Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/191110-burglary-on-whateley-rd-last-night-7th8th-may/#findComment-1244358 Share on other sites

James Barber
It is terrible to be burgled - especially so if present asleep upstairs. The research shows burglars are likely to repeat not just the initial home burgled after a few months but also neighbours - similar layout likely similar posessions. The Met Police patchily cocoon homes and neighbours to reduce this. So please do tell your neighbours so they can take extra precautions. Ask for the local Police for a Crime Prevention visit. But this online survey is good produced by a retired Met Police Crime Prevention Officer and only take a few minutes but really highlights areas to make a home more secure - https://thecrimepreventionwebsite.com/home-security-assessment/468/diy-home-security-survey/ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/191110-burglary-on-whateley-rd-last-night-7th8th-may/#findComment-1244368 Share on other sites

Gesundheit
Thanks KidKruger. He came in the back and left through the front door which he left ajar behind him. A house at the corner of silvester/Crystal Palace roads is having work done and the entire side wall is down leaving that and the neighbouring gardens exposed. My boyfriend went round to see if the post office collection place might have cctv on the area but it doesn?t look like it would catch anything across the road. I?ve no doubt the guy hopped into the gardens there and made his way along the flat roof extensions or jumping fences looking for open windows. So far I?ve heard of one other home that he went into on the same night and the last post from Puwetter makes it sound like he may have come back again last night. Anyway, the long and short of it is that if you know anyone living along the top stretch of Whateley/Silvester Rd, please let them know how vulnerable it is at the moment.
