Have not been back to Jo Partridge since having a fringe cut which made me look like Friar Tuck ....

Shingo at Kuki is brilliant, have always had an excellent cut there. I have very thin fine hair and it's important to me to have a good cut.

Kuki is also very reasonably priced.

Try Marco at Studio Salon Education, 515 Norwood Road West Norwood, 0208 670 6825, he used to be a Vidal Sassoon director and has just set up his new salon, he's great and really deserves to make it a success. I've got thick curly hair and he manages to make it look lovely... no mean feat!

My vote goes to Miguel at Rocks Hair http://www.rockshair.com/

He has lots of glowing recommendations here on the forum (how I discovered him) and has bags of enthusiasm and experience as a salon and session stylist.

I have really bog-standard, long, straight hair and always thought that it would look the same post a cut from most decent salons. However, I really notice the difference with Miguel. It just seems to frame my face better and - crucially - still looks good if I don't blow dry (like 90% of the time - two children under 3years isn't conducive to lengthy styling...)

Prior to Miguel, I flirted with lots of Japanese salons in the West End at the City and also a stint at Brooks & Brooks and Daniel Herscheon Jnr but Miguel is the best I've found.

I don't normally post recommendations for my hairdresser here as she's not 'close by local' (she's at London Bridge at the back of Guys) but she does do an amazing cut - she's one of the owners of a Japanese salon and the focus is really on cut more than anything else. As others have said, it depends what you want and need from a hairdresser. I keep my hair quite short and she's excellent at coming up with a shape/style that works for me even when it grows out a bit, but I quite like a strong/fashion type cut.

If this is the sort of thing you're looking for, and you don't mind a short train ride, I would certainly recommend her - Mariko at Malishi Hair Design - http://www.malishi.com/prices.html

Another recommendation for Shingo at Kuki on Bellendon Road. I have struggled to find a regular hairdressers to go to after moving to the area 3 years ago. Shingo is very precise, makes his own recommendations on what he thinks will suit you but most importantly listens to what you want.

I wouldn't go anywhere else now!

I use Angie. She has worked for Rush and other big names. I have used her for 10 yrs and she is a brilliant colourist and stylist and in particular she gives great subtle cuts for my long hair, which has stopped me taking drastic action on occasions to chop it all off! She is personable and is an ol' pro. I miss the salon experience but she fits into a working mums schedule because she comes to my home. Everyone thinks I'm still a natural blonde too. Her prices are really competitive too.She doesn't know I'm recommending her either so say that Brigid recommended her; her number is 07506130249
