The Gowlett - though not strictly SE22 - wins hand down for me. Wood fired pizza which are consistently spot on.

The Actress pizzas on North Cross Road are decent and also come in handy slices if just a bit peckish. Their flavours are more adventurous than some - for example potato and rosemary.

Il Mirto on Melbourne Grove is also good - cheapest in town too - though not as consistent as some.

SLA is the one Jimbo is mentioning - do I eat a lot of pizza? It's a fairly average offering - nothing to criticise, nothing to get excited about. Except its name of course....SLA? Stands for Sophie Loren's finest asset - a huge poster of which can be seen in the restaurant.

Definitely The Gowlett for me: was there again Sun. (celebrating United's massive win - just had to mention that, tee hee) and the pizzas were spot on - DI-VINE!

SLA: pizzas OK, but MUCH prefer The Gowlett. I like the "family atmosphere" at SLA though.

But then - it's all subjective...each to their own and all of that...

It depends how you like your pizzas.

Gowlett bases are thin and crispy - generally all-round delicious and undoubtedly my favourite. However (and I say this with much much love) the chef's special is bonkers and cornichons have no place on a pizza. Stick to the others and you'll be reet. Or if you like meat and pickles, try that one and see how you fare. The mushroom is superior to any I've had elsewhere, as is the pepperoni.

Actress is good - an altogether doughier base, but nicely crisped on the outside. I rather like the potato pizza and make a similar recipe myself, but for me, it's gotta be the chilli beef and Lord of the Hundreds. So tasty that you don't mind when the middle flops and drops tomato sauce all down your front.

Bad girl Rosie, leave Otta's ready meals alone.

( he does like Kingsmill 50/50 bread rolls though, seen it wit' me own eyes )

Now MrBen, don't go claiming things for yourself that just aren't true.

Fur coat no knickers doesn't belong to the Scots (you don't remember Lilo Lil clearly - did you never watch Bread?)

And no one's arguing for Scott's pizzas. Pretty much everyone, except Otta with his terrible taste, has said Gowlett. Accept that on this one, you're not the dangerous outsider fighting against the tide.

;-)

What Mick Mac said. American Hot for me (and I admit I used to add pineapple but now go a step further into madness and replace the meat with pineapple as I prefer it with chilli oil).

Tried the SLA place only once and thought both pizza and service were good. Would def go back.

Now Mr Ben made me laugh out loud re: fur coat, no knickers. Whilst I enjoyed the pizza in the earlier days of the Actress, I'm sad to say that the last pizza I ordered there was not very tasty at all and it went cold really quickly. Maybe that was a one-off bit of bad luck but I'll likely order anything but pizza next time I'm there.

Peckham for pizza B)

    • I'm glad that Barry's have posted.  Their mention of the merger soon led me to (a) bushy-tailed  PR guff about the new member joining the inpost 'family' and promising a bright happy world of lockers etc ahead. and (b) clear signs that the same problems related here seem to have been current and widespread even three months ago.  That's just from looking at one thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/vinted/comments/1nlv3u2/yodelinpost_merger_issues/
    • @first mate not aware of any either. Found this relating to 23-24..  https://services.southwark.gov.uk/southwark-creates/funding/cultural-celebrations-fund?chapter=4
    • Do we still get 50+ outdoor community events per year? All the ones round here seem to have been cancelled, like the Christmas Cracker and the summer equivalent and the Small Business Saturday event etc.  Even on the Southwark Presents page the only events in East Dulwich in the foreseeable future are non-council events organised by other people. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/southwark-presents?event_price=All&localgov_event_locality[0]=239&date_min=&date_max=&search=&page=2
    • @CPR DaveWe are talking about Lambeth Council, not Southwark, but I agree. It will be interesting to see if Lambeth fill part of that space with another hire out to a private events company.  As to the idea that what is gained financially from hiring out Peckham Rye Park is a good trade off, does not account for long-term damage to the park and the loss of access to the community for a month at least, in the best summer months where trees and shrubs are in full bloom and animals are birthing or rearing youngsters. For the Council to claim they are 'green' when they allow this is hypocrisy at its finest. @Northern Star Thanks, so they say. I'd love to see a list of these high quality free events and what they entail. I am not aware of any high quality free events in and around ED. Stand to be corrected though. Crikey, seems like they cannot even let Lordship Lane have Christmas lights this year.
