I met Marco Pierre White this week who asked me where I lived - when I said Dulwich, he replied "Lordship Lane?...I used to have a friend who had a restaurant there back in the seventies" - must be Chez Nico:)

Msdulwich was nico a stocky fellow with a beard who later opened another restaurant I think in Wandsworth.if I remember his restaurant on LL was the now Chinese restaurant opposite the old police station which is now the new school.

Nico was Nico Ladenis - indeed a stocky bearded chap - who went on to open Simply Nico in Pimlico and various other west end restaurants, gaining triple Michelin stars in the process. Famously rude (or exacting, depending on how one views it) - for example would throw diners out for asking for salt, on the grounds that he knew a damned sight better than them how to season a dish. He's retired now.

Never knew until I saw this thread and googled his history that he once adorned LL though, there should be a plaque!

One of Nico's chefs was Sammy who ran several restaurants in the manor including Thistles before it was the Chardon. . A lovely chap, he's still around but now retired
