Oh Skeggy

What joy it was. I went there as a child & fell out of the top bunk and ended up with a black eye.

Though I did come second in the "Mr Tarzan" which was nice.

And I'm sure I can see my self in the John Hinde/Martin Parr book, roller-skating away, dreaming of baked beans and lumpy mash in a hall filled with strangers.

Really, it was fab.

The only experience I have of Skeggy Butlins was wandering around in the middle of the night on Acid when everything was closed (we weren't residents, and if memory serves we'd jumped a fence). Once we'd decided that the noise coming from the generator buildings was in fact generators and not a night club that we couldn't find the entrance for (took us about 45 minutes), we met some guys from nottingham- did a few bongs and ended up skinny dipping in the outdoor pool.

    • ...and so, 4 years on from the "dramatic planning meeting" that approved the "meganursery", how has it all worked out in reality? The building looks nice from the outside - but I don't know anything more. Did either of the nursery businesses on EDG fail because there was no demand for nursery places in East Dulwich? Did Carmageddon on East Dulwich Grove get worse? Were pre-COVID work patterns abandoned forever (lol)? Were some of the concerns expressed in opposition to the planning application a teensy bit overblown...? https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/southwark/mega-nursery-approved-amid-dramatic-planning-meeting/
    • If I don’t feed the birds, they’ve actually come and perched on the fence and stared directly at me through the window. The squirrels do that too.
    • Reading The words 'Artisan'  and 'Curated' when refering to my 'Breakfast Bundle' frankly make me feel a bit..🤢
    • I would recommend Coopers bakehouse, which offer a similar service to B&C but it’s just focussed on really good bread, decent prices and keeps for ages (also freezes well).  Delivered by bike.
