Because there are better things to do with your life than to watch/listen teenagers of dubious talent singing karaoke. The only excuse for watching this drivel is if you have no interest in music, and an obsession with the cult of celebrity.

Or you just want to collapse in front of telly and not use your brain too much for a while.

Come on Jeremy, no one takes it seriously (I very much hope), it's just a bit of old fashioned Saturday night telly, for people who never go out anymore.

Of course, it crushes the dreams of some vulnerable people, but that serves them right for going on it.

I love music and of course xfactor is what it is, but I've really enjoyed watching it. Really happy for Little Mix too. They seem like four lovely young ladies and they can sing. At the end of the day it's about finding 'pop' artists, who appeal to a particular market. That charts are not everyone's cup of tea and they've always had a fair amount of drivel in them since they began (in the 50's?) but does it really matter? And I agree with the Saturday night viewing comments above too......nothing wrong with anything 'old fashioned' either.

I wish nothing but the very best of luck to all the finalists.

Sadly I think you are right Loz. Take That were sent to the gym when they reformed, one Gary Barlow being particularly targetted (and he talked recently about his battle with weight!!!) and Claire in Steps was another that had to work ridiculously hard to satisfy the 'image' demands. The stupid thing is that a camera lense puts 10 lbs of weight on so all these people, presenters etc are under presure to be rake thin. Hasn't seemed to bother Adele though.

Jeremy grew up reading Ikea catalogues.

We love the X-factor and loathe it in equal measure. It is like Otta says "Saturday nite tele for people who don't go out"

It's a bloody great Karaoke really & it does make me laugh at times.

Do I buy the records.

Do I go to the live tour.

Do I give a hoot after it's all over.

NO

Each to their own.

Maybe if you watched the programme, you would realise that the majority of X Factor finalists can actually sing.

That's what makes it so watchable. Yes, a few get put through for their entertainment value rather than their

voices, but they are always voted out before the finals anyway.

It's all about personality too. One of the reasons I was voting & supporting Little Mix for the past few weeks,

is because they are very likeable girls, have great stage presence & each one of them can sing.

It was also a refreshing change to see a good girl group in with a chance of winning.

So, I'm well pleased with the result.

Little Mix have won.

:)-D

Roll on next year. Can't wait!

Two of them can sing. One can sometimes get near to the note she was aiming for. But the Hamster has been so far off key some weeks it's been painful. She tortured the start and end of 'Beautiful' so badly a couple of weeks ago I'm surprised the United Nations weren't called in.

    • Kwik Fit buggered up an A/C leak diagnosis for me (saying there wasn't one, when there was) and sold a regas. The vehicle had to be taken to an A/C specialist for condensor replacement and a further regas. Not impressed.
    • Yes, these are all good points. I agree with you, that division has led us down dangerous paths in the past. And I deplore any kind of racism (as I think you probably know).  But I feel that a lot of the current wave of xenophobia we're witnessing is actually more about a general malaise and discontent. I know non-white people around here who are surprisingly vocal about immigrants - legal or otherwise. I think this feeling transcends skin colour for a lot of people and isn't as simple as, say, the Jew hatred of the 1930s or the Irish and Black racism that we saw laterally. I think people feel ignored and looked down upon.  What you don't realise, Sephiroth, is that I actually agree with a lot of what you're saying. I just think that looking down on people because of their voting history and opinions is self-defeating. And that's where Labour's getting it wrong and Reform is reaping the rewards.
    • @Sephiroth you made some interesting points on the economy, on the Lammy thread. Thought it worth broadening the discussion. Reeves (irrespective of her financial competence) clearly was too downbeat on things when Labour came into power. But could there have been more honesty on the liklihood of taxes going up (which they have done, and will do in any case due to the freezing of personal allowances).  It may have been a silly commitment not to do this, but were you damned if you do and damned if you don't?
    • I'd quit this thread, let those who just want to slag Labour off have their own thread.  Your views on the economy are worth debating.  I'm just stunned how there wasn't this level of noise with the last government.  I could try to get some dirt on Badenoch but she is pointless  Whilst I am not a fan of the Daily Mirror at least there is some respite from Labour bashing. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/grenfell-hillsborough-families-make-powerful-36175862 https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/nigel-farage-facing-parliamentary-investigation-36188612
