I am a trustee of 2 charities, both of which have accounts with Barclays. One charity has tried to do on line banking in order to pay wages but have been refused as 2 signatories are needed on cheques, and on line will only authorise 1 person to access the account. Since the charity receives grants- the requirement is that all financial transactions must have 2 signatories to prevent fraud.

This week I had to meet with a financial advisor at my bank, since my local branch has closed, had to go elsewhere, the earliest appointment I could be given was 2 weeks time at the Surrey Quays Branch as my nearest branch was booked up. They managed to find me a slot yesterday-but I had to cut short a previous appointment elsewhere in order to make the time. This was not something I could deal with on line as I had to produce IDs and also sign documents.

On line banking does not suit every one.

Lloyds informed my husband when he went there that until they had written confirmation that their branch was not being closed they were not permitted to install disabled access.

According to the Dulwich Society the village Barclays closes on 13 October but the ED branch remains open (for now). Guess that means the ED branch is having a refurb and will reopen before DV closes?

  • 2 years later...

Barclays at 8 Oct 2020 has a recorded message saying that they are aware tbat recent transsactions are 'not showing' on customers' accounts.... but they hope to put the situation 'back where it was' by 'tonight'.

So hardly any branches left, hardly any humans in those few branches, which in any they are still closing at 2pm using COVID as an excuse and where they have further reduced the already reduced services, again using COVID as an excuse...and still not answering the phone, just the tra la la waiting music.

Meanwhile my incoming funds are held, somewhere, by Barclays, but I can't access the money. Suggest all Barclays account holders check accounts v carefully if and when Barclays tell us that they have sorted out this ginormous mess.

Hope you get it sorted yorksgirl.

Can't believe that Barclays Bank would be so behind with everything.

As you say they have hardly any branches left. I left school at just turned 16 in 1979 and started work up at the West Norwood branch of Barclays. My friend got a job at the Herne Hill branch.

Sadly, both branches of the bank are something completely different now.

    • I can also strongly recommend Lukasz after he completed some floorboard repairs and some complex repairs to skirting damaged through dog chews. He is responsive, punctual, reasonably priced, detail-oriented and his work is to a very high standard.
    • Really? Yes you are probably right as I know from personal experience with Guys… as I claiming travel costs back, that no one told me I could claim! Left hand does not know what right hand is doing regarding admin..  If they charged people for wasting overstretched staff in A& E as in not urgent just might deter people from wasting precious time…. But then you need interpreters, to explain if language is a barrier and admin staff to administer..  Correct me if I am wrong but is there not a train from Denmark Hill or East Dulwich which goes to London Bridge? Would be faster than 2 buses I would have thought.    Oh, forgot about Tessa Jowell but thought you needed GP referral in which case, that would be the place to go rather than a bigger hospital. Know there is one in Beckenham and you can call and they will give you an idea as to wait time…..same I hope at TJ…assuming they answer phone.. If one really things about it…too many  people in London for example and to few hospitals…
    • I don’t think it’s licensed for Sundays. It is licences for Fridays, but there hasn’t been anyone there on a Friday for years. So I doubt it. i think there’s a market at the Horniman on Sundays. Also pretty sure there’s one outside Herve Hill station on a Sunday.
    • I believe there is a minor injuries department at Guys, though I may have misremembered. Not very convenient for SE22 now the 40 no longer goes near. You have to get 2 buses or a train. Charging people (not sure if you mean financially or legally) would waste a lot more time, I would have thought? And  a bad bruise could be serious, depending on the cause and possibly other symptoms.
