Why have the benches in Dulwich Park been lowered?

Has anyone else noticed that all the benches in the newly resurfaced areas are now lower, almost like children's chairs? As someone who's nearly 5ft 2 they feel low to me, which makes it harder to stand up again, and it made me wonder how it would feel for an elderly or less fit person who actually needs to sit down for a rest during their walk.

Does anyone know why this was done? My guess would be security - that the contractor has embedded the bottom 2-3 inches to make them harder to steal - but there could be another reason I guess.

But they took the benches out first and put them back later. Probably just the contractors not thinking through the extra depth the tarmac would add, but now I'm at the age where you can't sit down or get up without a slight middle-aged grunt, I do feel for older and less active people who are going to find it unhelpful!

Also they moved the bench closest to the gate at firemans alley entrance which elderly relatives of mine used to sit on and they never put it back. It was convenient for them to sit on as it was close to the entrance.

Can we think of the older generation and put it back.

    • Well now you have asked.  Cycle paths are for cyclists so there is no question about 'taking over'.  Share paths are shared so there is no such thing as 'taking over'.  Footpaths, from my experience of many decades as a pedestrian, are mainly used by pedestrians so have not been taken over by cyclists.
    • Hi Tim,   I have a cd collection I want to get rid of, it's a mixture of everything really, I need to sort through it cos I want to keep a few. pm me if you're interested.   Cheers   Bruce
    • @Hen123 you really don't seem to have a grasp of conversational English yet, three times you have asked me the same question and three times I have given you the simple answer of I don't know  yet three times you have failed to comprehend it.  Multiple times I have asked you a simple "yes" / "no" question which is "Do you think all road users should obey ALL the rules?" But you are incapable of answering it. You are starting to sound lile a cheap knock off first gen AI Troll bot.  However, as that's what I believe you are, I will put this into French, just incase your developer wrote you in the international language of cyclists who all believe they are in the Tour De France "Pensez-vous que tous les usagers de la route devraient respecter TOUTES les règles ?"  If you fail to answer this time, then I conclude your computer programming says "No" and no further input from you is of any consequence to me or this discussion concerning poor cycling practices.
    • At Goose Green early morning yesterday (before the festival [which was, as ever, a delight!]). If you think this may be yours/know whose it is, please PM me with details.
