Dear oh dear Laddy Muck! The objective isn't to get it as full as possible just so they can be recycled...tsk tsk, you're meant to be consuming less in the first place ;-)

The blue wheelie bin monstrosities don't appear to have replaced the blue recycling boxes either, they are in addition to them. According to the leaflet, the onus is on me to let them know if I don't need the blue box anymore or would like a different size bin. WTF.

Arrived home late this evening to find a brown kitchen caddy on my doorstep so that's now a grand total of 5 different receptacles for recyling. Why didn't they let us use the old green wheelie bins for the same items that you can now put in the blue bin?

I like the idea of unsorting, something they were doing in Essex a long time ago. Catch up Southwark but don't use a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Doing my bit to assist Southwark Council in achieving their EU recycling quota, dear Katiewotsit. They are going to be so pleased when they collect.

*devours further boxes of fair traded chocolates, bottles of organic cider, and cans of sustainably fished salmon*

I'm in favour of the blue bin. Means I no longer need the blue bag and box. And don't have to sort through can just put it all in one place. I don't mind it being In the frontgarden either not like I sit out there or use the space other than when I walk through it to get to my gate.

And I think the boxes often looked messy with stuff overflowing in people's front gardens. All round thumbs up from me

Go Southwark recycling!!! (also like the food waste/caddy idea) less in landfill site it's got to be a good thing hasn't it?

Yes I'm going to use that small brown plastic container they left in the front garden as a sort of bucket.

However - beware. After filling everyone's garden with a minimum of 4 bins, and in some properties more than 12, Southwark council have just sent a letter warning householders of prosecution in the event that any bins are left on the "public highway". Helpful - given they haven't taken away redundant ue boxes.

Just heard that some Councils are returning to Weekly collections.

The large Wheelie bins have to be loaded at the back hoist, the smaller containers have to be tipped into the side hoist, this means that which ever internal part of the truck gets filled first, even if the main one is only half full the collection must stop here to go to the Tip.

I have no problem with my bins I put them out of sight in the garage I do find it very awkward pulling the bins to the road.

They came round my way delivering the blue bins this morning, lucky I was in as was able to tell them I didn't want one. A single box is usually enough for two weeks worth of recycling for me but I have a second to take any overflow. They stack easily and take up less space than a large blue bin.

Minkey you are lucky that the council took away your 1 box every 2 weeks if it had everything in.

Up until now we've had to have one blue box for glass, one blue box for plastic, one blue bag for paper and one bag for tins. If we mixed it they would knock on our door or have a moan.

I was dreading having the blue bin but now it's good because I can just chuck everything in there (including juice cartons, aerosols. It's freed up a lot of space in my normal green bin which is even emptier because the food waste has to go in the small brown caddy bin.

We are a family of 5 (3 adults and two teenagers) and I work from home so all the recycling bins are well used.

In fact, I think I might need to keep the blue boxes as an overflow from the blue bin, as the blue bin is half full after just a week. This is just after reading that the blue bin is collected fortnightly.

How many Wheelie bins on order for THE SHARD, and where will they keep them?

Suggestion build a Pier on the Thames where a waiting Barge will wait for their bins.

Otherwise the bins will be suspended outside on each level for the residents to fill. It might not smell if emptied every two weeks as the wind would take the smell away.

Hi Pickle - I'm not too far away in North Dulwich.

Only a month ago one of the collection men knocked because I'd put some plastic milk cartons on top of the paper bag.

I had to explain that my plastic box was overflowing and it was a one-off, but he wasn't very happy!

    • Police are responsible for speed cameras, often these only go up after a serious incident or two. If speeding was decriminalised and went to local authorities to enforce then our roads would be safer as there would be far less speeding.   https://www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/what-london-assembly-does/questions-mayor/find-an-answer/enforcement-20mph-zones-local-roads
    • Never understood why there are not more speed cameras on Lordship Lane and the surrounding area - not sure what happened here exactly, but given the damage to the front of the vehicle as a result of the impact of the traffic light, it seems very unlikely that this person was driving slowly.
    • I am always really surprised by the glowing reviews of Franklins. Not sure whether it was once very good, and so it is just somewhere that is now remembered as that and thought of fondly by those who have known it since its opening all those years ago? As someone who has lived in the area for a few years now, and having tried it a few times (mostly as a result of the positive reviews), I have always been pretty disappointed. The food has always been average for the price point, and last time we visited we waited about 40 minutes to place an order. Hopefully whoever buys it can make improvements - it would be great to have a reliable pub on the lane that serves good food (similar to the Kerfield or Camberwell Arms, etc.)!
    • I will buy you a frothy coffee from anywhere you like on Lordship Lane if that happens. Most of these costs never get recovered from the drivers that caused them. The photo shows a car that's been left on the zigzags protecting the crossing. Pedestrians crossing East to West and drivers heading South won't see each other until the pedestrians are in the road. That is a dangerous position to leave a car in. (I don't know if it's stil there, obviously).
