Maria's Tortilla - East Dulwich.

Recommended Posts

We went last night just for a glass and a couple of pieces of tapas before heading down the road for drinks. Maria is charming and full of warmth. I hope that people will support it - not as swanky as some of the other restaurants in this foodie part of ED but great intention.

Well, it would be nice, but no! Was thinking of kids tea. The gap at Miss Tapas means it isn?t so practical. Went to Maria?s Tortilla today. It?s nice. Prefer Miss Tapas, but Maria?s is a great addition to Lordship lane and it?s nice to have a different option.

Indeed it is open and it is an excellent bar. Fashioned like a typical Spanish bar, where you have your tapas as a side to your drink, not viceversa!

Glorious tortillas (the original Spanish omelette with several flavours), croquetas, pintxos...Mar?a also a very friendly owner. Worth a visit and repeat.

I?ve added Maria?s Tortilla to Tripadvisor as its a welcome addition to the lane and the more places its mentioned that people might look the more chance it has of being there in the future when we want to go again. If you can add reviews to the Tripadvisor entry that would be good - new places are mentioned on the forum but then threads are not updated and it gets difficult to find out about them. Here?s what we thought of it.

?This is a bar not a restaurant and less foodie than recent additions to Lordship Lane. It?s good at what it does.

Like most places on Lordship Lane it?s small. There are three low tables, three or four high tables for two and seats at the bar.

There are drinks menus on the table and the food - tapas and pinxos- is written on a blackboard at the end of the bar. There is a good selection of wine by the glass.

Tortilla was so good we finished it so quickly Maria thought we hadn?t had it. The sauce on the Patatas bravas was quite smoky. Pisto (ratatouille) had too much tomato for us.

A welcome addition and Maria was very friendly. Prices reasonable for tapas. Dishes ?2.50 for an individual snack, ?4-?6.50 for a tapas to share.

We?ll be back?

A shout out for the excellent Maria's Tortilla. Dropped in for the first time yesterday and definitely intend to go often! My glass of wine was delicious, so was my plate of food, and good value too. Also a lovely and relaxed atmosphere. Fully recommend it...

    • As the meeting, which I did not attend, was moved, as I understand it, to the Alleyn's School Theatre, one of the few venues large enough to take the members attending (the Dog's upstairs room has a capacity only of 100 as I understand it) the cost, or lack of it, of the Dog's room is immaterial. The costs of the meeting would have included costs of communications to members (printing and postage), printed ballot and voting slips etc. Nowadays these costs (particularly postage) are non-trivial. Much of the membership is of an age where digital communications are not always appreciated or even possible. The material (which I have seen) is not ideal for smart phone viewing, and ballot slips need to be real, not virtual. The cost of setting up electronic voting systems would have been far higher than printing ballot papers.
