Totally FREE! E' Dul Cycle Rides: Sundays 9-30am London Pks & Blue Plaques short rides: Dates TBC

Recommended Posts

We will do a London to Brighton ride at some stage into Spring, but if you are interested in achievements, join the Distances group after the first few rides.

The two groups will start together on the shorter rides to begin with before we get into Spring, and then divide. Before the coast ride, the distance group spend time on 'C' class roads in the country, and they are all.... challenging, basically no flat bits.

Vivienne, is this the V that I know?

Hia - I'd like to come. I have my own bike but I am terrified of roads so I never go out on it - my other half thinks that the group scenario may be the confidence boost I need!

Cheers!

Are we all good for this Sunday?

Just in from Manhattan Island, aka New York!

Beautiful, fun, exciting, live, loads and loads of yellow cabs and ...... heaps of history! But, didn't see that many bikes, other than those that have a battery attached!

So, a nice easy peasy ride to Battersea Park this coming Sunday, starting at 10am from the Texaco Garage in Goose Green, following only flat routes via Bellingdon Road, left to Camberwell, over Vauxhall Bri, left along the Embankment and left again into the Park for an 11am coffee / tea and croissant!

I'll have you back inside for midday. Will repeat this every other Sunday with different parks such as Hyde Park, Southwark Park, Regents Park as they are local and fun to explore and burn, consume and then burn calories :-)

Best!

Columbus....... AKA McCabe

Yes, it was a brilliant bright sunny morning - a great way to start the fortnightly rides again for 2012!

Next ride is to Hyde Park, following last weeks route of Bellingdon Road, Left up to Camberwell, over Vauxhall Bri and then straight on to Hyde Park Corner. Will then do a circuit of the park and stop for tea, coffee & croissants at the caf? in the park opp the Iranian Embassy - very nice one too.

Proposing the next park as Regents park..... it you notice these will take you progressively further north by a couple of miles week on week. Then, as a complete switch of scenary, we could head upto Brick Lane / Spitalfields via the old Surrey Canal.

Reflecting on last year, the O2 ride & Greenwich were both pretty enjoyable too.

Cheers,

McCabe

I'm considering this - can someone tell me whether it will be suitable for me if I haven't done any cycling in London (apart from one trip to Sainsburys!) - and do we need a helmet? any other equipment? as you can tell, I'm not a regular cyclist, but do have a bike!

thanks.

G'day!

The bike is really important to have, but other than that I recommend a high vis jacket and helmet. I design the routes so the journeys are more-or-less flat... and not too far each way and as a treat, we stop for coffee and croissants in a London Park, in this case Hyde Park. We don't ride through red lights or race, its a nice leisurely pace with support from everyone.

See you at the garage for 10am this Sunday,

Best!

McCabe.

G'day!

I'll be there for the turn out, the weather may have an impact.

So, put the positive hat on and still meet, if it rains lets all have an early brunch somewhere.... ie, croissants & coffee without the big ride.

At work on Monday morning and everyone says Sunday was a wipe out, you turn around and say yep, we didn't do the ride so we all had an early brunch and discussed theatre land etc..... PAT - Plan, Allow (for changes), Try-it! So, you now have an acronym and an anchor!

Welcome to the McCabe world of being positive :))

    • I am  ill in bed with Covid. It's not that I "can't be bothered" to read things. I am feeling crap and don't have the mental  energy at the moment. I am not "brushing stuff aside and pleading ignorance." I am truthfully saying when I don't presently know enough about something to be able to comment. I have always been very careful to try to  differentiate between fact and opinion in both  my posts and other people's, and I am not clear what your point is. And I am certainly not trying to wind anybody up. This is a forum. If you don't want to respond to my posts, that's up to you. I'm not sure why you feel the need to announce it.
    • @NewWave I know how you feel. Like you, I've lived and spent prolonged periods of time in some pretty crazy places and always thought I could handle a bunch of kids. But, no - they got to me and I was shaking like a leaf afterwards. That's what age does to us.  But I did engage with them, so bear that in mind.  My advice would be to never let anything like that stop you doing the things you love. I'm certainly not going to stop using the park, there's no way they get to take away our cherished spaces!  If you see them, just change tack and keep out of their way. My dog won't even go that way again, so that's that problem solved. (If I see them again, I'm going to keep taking photos from a safe distance).
    • Truly horrific. Being passive or fighting back is what many of us think about by violent theft.
    • What ridiculous waste of money
